Bought an old TM125 for my 15 year old son to learn about biking on (he's already seriously into bikes as I've taken him on european tours and the Isle of Man TT on the back of mine)

He's had a few goes at 'Bumpy' near Leeds on their TTR125 so knows the basics, but I'm struggling to find places to take him on the TM. He really fancies more enduro/trail riding, but most of what I can find online seems to be motocross tracks.

I've seen a place near Sharrow/Ripon by the side of the road that looks like an off road course, and its close too, but no idea who owns it, so not sure way the deal is there.

Anyone got any advice/hidden gems? Just looking for somewhere he can continue to learn without massive jumps and other riders blasting past him!

Not much around your neck of the woods, there's a Moto X Park at Finningley or Black Cown at Rochdale

At Sharow the TM wouldn't get out of 1st or 2nd gear and is too close to the road, for a learner.................... with no run-off:eek:

Maybe get him to enter a Hare and Hounds event where he can ride for as long as he wants, within the time allowed - but he'll be competing against others

I wouldn't advise Sharow at all

Cheers guys,

JohnnyBoxer - I was hoping you'd reply as I gather from posts that you're local to me. I'll give Sharrow a miss....just seems a shame that these days there's so few places for things like this. When I was a kid there seemed to be loads of waste ground areas where you could ride with no problems, even in Harrogate. Now you need to trailer a bike and spend an hour driving somewhere!

In our day the miserable spoil sport bastards had to walk home to phone the coppers , now they are on their mobiles whilst stood next to you, cnuts.

Or around here, be the offspring of benefit claimants, ride a stolen bike where the feck ya like and know where to run when the plod eventually do turn up. The only way you'll ever be reprimanded around here is if your parents work and you don't live in social housing.

Well we went along to Uncle Eddies near Doncaster yesterday.

Turned out to be fantastic days riding! The enduro track there is quite technical so we were allowed onto the kids track whilst it was quiet for him to get used to the bike, before he headed out onto the adult mx track (but on the small bike session, even though he was on a big bike). Really helped with his confidence and he was getting faster by the end of the day, even getting a few small jumps in. Had a few 15 minute sessions myself and was surprised just how pokey the TM125 2T was!

It was also a lot of fun riding such a lightweight bike after the GS. Gave me the motocross bug and looking now for another bike for myself (oh how the mrs will be pleased when she finds out haha).
