Can anybody point me at a very good quality double USB socket to replace the oem Hella socket on my R1250GS. Over the last four years I’ve had to buy two like this : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/37551785...2jAnwwNNJH0HtwmoK9Q==|tkp:BFBMkr2YgLtk&edge=0

I bought the first one from Nippy Norman’s about four years ago; it lasted two years. I replaced with an identical one from eBay; that has just failed, again after about two years. Each time the failure was to due water getting inside the unit. This happens despite the fact that are supposed to be waterproof if the caps are fitted to the sockets or if plugs are inserted into the sockets.

Can anyone help?

I've had good experiences with the Blue Sea brand. It's marine quality (apparently). I have been very pleased with the quality, way ahead fo cheapychinky stuff :okay
This kind of thing

I don’t think 2 years is bad for such a device considering the environment it’s used in. How many fail after a year or 2 just sitting in a domestic socket? I’ve replaced a few over the years. Buy cheap buy often. JJH

I used one of these on my Tiger, only the 2+2 version with 2x USB & 2x 12V cigarette lighter. I keep the important end in my tank bag. Also works on BMW. Phone and Zumo plugged in. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391996672137 seller has other types that might have more powerful USB output.

I fitted one of those to my GS a short time ago. I've found that if I charge my phone off of that when I'm using my phone for nav, it drains it quicker than that charges it. Have you found the same?
Trying to find a faster usb to charge it

The fast charge version advertised by NN on this site is good. Both USB A and C charge much faster than the original one did.

LAMPA makes some quality, fused, USB sockets.
But you have to scour eBay to find them this side of the channel.

Have to agree, USB connections by their nature are water resistant at best. Currently I'm using one of these, good build quality and has a decent power output.

I had the same problem once and it turned out to be the cable i was using not the charger.

Sorry to admit that I am already compiling an early Christmas list (don't hate me) and the USB charger bits from Nippy Normans are on it .. they look good to me !

Very good point, will try with another cable, although the one on there is fairly new and a good quality. Thank you

Regular USB cables send around 2.5 Watts of power to your gadget's battery, while fast-charging cables can send as high as 120 watts, powering up phones in half an hour or one hour. If you have a fast-charging adapter and use a standard USB cable to charge your device, the cable won't charge your device faster. I use an app called ampere on my phone that tells me how fast its charging.
