Where can I get a comprehensive list of torque wrench settings?

As you'll be putting some copperslip on the stainless bolts and nuts, i'd be very careful torquing them up to the specs ;

they're for dry bolts -

OK, this is getting complicated!

Let me get this right. I ought to be adding Copper Slip (That is one of these sprays right?) to any Stainless Steel bolts I use, but then this changes the torque settings stated in the manual? Steptoe warns, 'to take care' - Does this mean go slowly or does it mean reducing the torque setting - or increasing it!!!!

I'd appreciate any advice. I have been replacing the odd corroded fastening with SS provided by Steptoe, just as needs be.

Hello Norman,

Copper Slip grease comes in tubes or tubs as a paste - it stops threads binding together (I believe you have to be specially careful mixing alu and ss - they can chemically weld together over time). You can get it in any motor shop, like Halfords. I *think* Steptoe is saying that if anything you should --------- the torque setting - but I'm sure he'll come along and confirm that *EDIT there you go, he's been already! Cheers Steptoe /EDIT*. I was asking whether you should CS on ALL nuts and bolts because I'm assuming that you don't use on it things like brake disc bolts (loctite here) and was wondering if there was anywhere I shouldn't use it! I don't know if this makes thing less or more confusing :D

BTW, which manual are you using, and does it have all the torque wrench settings? I need to get myself one....
Cheers

i put copper slip on my disc mounting bolts, f*ck putting locktight on them -

I've never had a bolt come undone, don't use a torque wrench on 99% of the bolts when fitting the stainless -

don't get to anal, just use your common sense -

if it falls out, you've done it to loose .

if it snaps , you've done it to tight .

:D :D

Complete R1150GS Manual with all the details you will ever need

its 52MB in size, so will take a while to download, and in pdf format. Do a right click and save target as. I have not tested the download so let me know if there are any problems.

Mick

You're a star - thanks for this. Downloading as I type....

This is great and just why I love this board - thanks to Steptoe and Sargeant and others - uncertainty removed and something learned from the experience of others. I just wish I could get into the habit of asking questions first before I learn lessons the hard way! No damage done tho'.
Thanks guys, Norman
