I’d like a spare key for my panniers to save changing the locks when I change bikes. Don’t need all the fancy chips and buttons, just a normal key. Tried Timpsons but they looked a bit confused. Any idea if/where I can get one of these?
Get one from your bmw dealer, around 15 pound I think. Prior to that I did buy a blank off eBay for about 4 quid and got it cut for another 6 quid, never did work really smoothly and cost almost the same as going to the dealer!
I did the same from https://keysinthepost.com/ - cost £16 - saves getting the keyless fob out of the inner, waterproof pocket of my jacket plus if I leave this key in the seat lock, it is dumb and does not matter if I lose it
I got 1 cut at my local branch of Timpsons. They had to order the blank as they didn't have it in stock so might be your local lot don't know what they're doing.....
Tried Timpsons for a spare bike Key But ,unfortunately said they are not allowed to cut them,I had no choice but to go to main dealer, but I don't think it was very expensive though

They tried that one on me last year when I went in for a spare for the mighty Rocket 3. I had Triumph blank keys from the local dealer. After a bit of tooing and froing with the chap at Timpsons it turned out that they won't cut keys from customers own blanks but are happy to do it if the blank is supplied from them. I would have quite happily paid the extra for the blank from them and had them cut the Triumph blanks to fit but he was having none of it. Anyway, I got my spares eventually....................anyone want some Triumph blanks??
Two different Timpsons branches couldn’t / wouldn’t do it. Local independent place had no problem, did the whole thing for £12 including supplying the blank in about 15 minutes. Key works fine, it even has the chip which they could program for the BMW if I’d wanted. Top service!
