Tour-X 's were out of stock at the importers until around April this year. There's plenty in stock now - just get your local Arai 5 star dealer to place an order! :thumb

Try here got mine from them earlier this year when no local dealers could get one and the price was pretty darned good as well :D
That is a really good deal, as I have the feeling that these are last years colours which I prefer... I searched high and low at BMF to find the silver ones... found one which was not my size and they wanted £250 for it..

Went to an Aria stand where they had the new ones for £300 and they gave me some story about cheaper 'imports' not being covered by the Arai guarentee... :nenau ... I personally don't see how they'd know where it'd come from... don't know if anyone could shed any light on that...

Oh.. and whats the difference between 'Aluminium' Silver and 'Motard' Silver... :nenau

There's a code number on the back of the helmet which shows which market it was made for. Worst case scenario if you buy from the web is you get a Japanese market helmet (Arai use more than one 'head shape'), best case scenario is you get a U.S. market one which is the same as a U.K. one.

If it's not the right market number then you can't get it serviced at the Arai race tents and there is no guarantee other than the sale of goods act.

The Motard models have the new venting system on them and fade from black to silver. Aluminium models are just one plain colour. Motard was last year's limited edition paint job.

I bought my Tour X and my Brother bought his from Biker Bargains. Mine was a large which was in stock but as he need an extra large they ordered it in which took a couple of weeks. I spent ages looking for a good price and they were the best by far and the service was really good.
I've also heard about the imports non having the warantee thing. The last time I was in Hein Gericke in Leicester they had a poster on the wall regarding helmets imported from Eastern Europe (I think) that hadnt been tested to European Standards and consequently had no warranty in the UK. The way to tell if you helmet has a warranty is to look at the serial number on the back but I cant remember exactly what to look for.
By the way the ones we bought from Biker Bargains were fine.

Any idea where to get details of which code applies to which market? I can see the code on mine and it also has the gold sticker used on "UK" helmets plus an English instruction manual.

It's worth noting that the Motard models are listed at £350 retail so the price is definetly good.

Personally I find the Motard silver more subtle than the plain silver which when I saw it struck me nearly as an aluminium silver.

Code number

Mine says ECE 22 - 05 on the back.

The manufacturing date on the chinstrap says 12 05 so I think we can assume the 05 bit means the year. :nenau

It's definitely a genuine EC import as it was from HG special order :D

Mine from Bikers Bargains has the same ECE code and 11/05 manufacture so no worries on imports it seems :thumb

Definitive answer:

Just been on to Gavin at HG Brum and he tells me this:

1. Availability - Arai are at maximum production. The U.S. testing standards have just changed and the U.S. importer has waited until new stock got the new stickers before grabbing all the spare volume. Waiting time for new Tour - x's now stands at about a month + :(

2. Codes - On the back it should say ECE 22-05. If it's 04 it's an old helmet, this is also born out by the manufacturing date on a white tab on the chin strap.

3. Warranty - There is also an orange label on the chin strap with 2 codes on it. These are logged at Pheonix when the helmets are imported. If it's not a Pheonix helmet then there is no warranty. The only guarantee of an 'official' helmet is to buy from a 5 star dealer. :nenau

So the real issue is warranty - if you feel happy with the sale of goods act and the likely service from your dealer then go ahead. To be honest I've never had a problem with an Arai and can't believe that the manufacturing standards are any different from one market to another. I just wanted the Challenge Red one so I had to go the official route. If I'd wanted a plain one I'd be looking on the web too.

Of course The Visor Shop is cheap, on the web and a star dealer plus they give you a black visor into the bargain :thumb

Yeah ... ordered my Red Challenge from visorshop Monday morning, its going to be here tomorrow ... delay was due to new stock arriving and holidays ...

Smooth transaction so far ...

I got mine from the visorshop in about a weeks time and I live in Greece...
:clap :clap :clap for the service.

Warranty.

Folks, helmets sold in Europe legally, are covered by Arai warranty.
People whose residance is not in the EU but are in the EU when a repair to their Arai lid is required, it will be done, same as if us EU residents are elsewhere and a lid failure occurs, it will be sorted.
Factory claims get processed no matter where the product was purchased.
All this dealer chit-chat about 'grey' products not being covered is 8ullshit.
The whole idea of a product being a world-wide winner would fall at the 1st if a multi-national support service did not accompany it.
