I have just renewed my insurance and reluctantly decided to opt for an insurance that is for cover whilst just in the garage. However to prove market value I need my 1975 BMW R90S assessed. I value it at £5000.00. It is A1 condition.
Anyone any ideas where I can get this done.

In my limited experience, I have insured various vintage cars with an agreed valuation. I have never been asked to "Prove" the value. I would consider £5000 is reasonable for a 90s. If the insurers dont agree I am sure they will tell you.
If you do have to prove it, I would try the BMW club. have a look at Auction sales, Bonhams, H&H and the like. after all a bike is worth what someone will pay for it.

Only my view:rob

They don't ask you to prove it, so they can take your pants down and drag it out for ages when you do claim.

Collect a lot of adverts for the bikes that come up for sale in the press and at auction, and find out what they sell for as well so you can stuff it up them if you do need to claim.

All insurance companies are absolute twats, and the only way to deal with them, is the way they deal with you (but get in there first and steal their thunder)

Might add to this from a different experience from BMW Direct when I had to claim.

R100GS BumbleBee in good cosmetic condition and MOT'd + Taxed. I had loads of recent photo's of the bike and also retained some slips of work done etc. When I phoned they said the book value is £800 do I want to claim

I posted them a file full of slips/photo's etc so they could see and then followed up with a call. I said best is they phone the likes of James Sherlock/Motorworks and get an independent value from these guys. The chap there did so and investigated further. From my understanding I insured the bike for £2500 what was paid for it.

They came back and offered me £3300 after carefull consideration and investigation. I would strongly suggest taking photo's over time and even though it is a pain in the arse keep every slip in a folder of what you have spent on it :beerjug:

The chap told me that James Sherlock explained to him why it is fetching such good money and took the time to look at some of the pictures he emailed confirming what the actual current going rate on these bikes would be - thanks James :thumb2 :clap
