Where do you shove your horn?

And is it worth the effort anyway?? :augie

Even after 18 months of BMW ownership, I still end up indicating left in an forceful fashion whenever I want to use the horn in anger :blast :D

Isn't the Stebel Magnum a straight swap for the standard BMW horn? I thought it was the Stebel Nautilus that was a bugger to fit? :nenau

I hope it's a straighht swap anyway, because I've just ordered one.

Not on the '08 GSA.........space problem.

Stebel Magnum for a 08 GSA w/ ESA

The horn is a great improvement over the stock horn indeed and Nippy's connector works like a charm - disconnect the beep thingy, plug in Nippy's connector and !wahhh! :beerjug: you go. :)
However where the put the darn :augie thing; just having it dangle by the wires won't cut it. Ideas, pictures: anyone?

The space occupied by the stock horn appears to small and the right hand side recess (for the US-version carbon bottle) seems to require sone creative steel bending for a proper and reliable fit.

Input and successful experiences highly appreciated...Thxs

Just an idea but...
If you remove the loose plastic cover from the back of the Stebel magnum it makes it a lot smaller. A dab with a belt sander on the opposite side of the "trumpet" (oo-er!) should slim it enough to fit the stock mount with enough clearance for the forks & shock.

I'm Still doing the same after 12 years of BMW riding!

me too. I fumble around by which time the idiot has gone. More recently I've found a bit of engine revving to be more effective. Had a guy tried to squeeze past me as the road merged from two lanes to one. A bit of engine revving, weaving and a steely stare seemed to do the trick... he baked right off :green gri

Of course the guy that pulled a U-turn into my path last week had to be dealt with differently. I had to hi:spitfiret him. Luckily the bike only sustained a small scratch to the wind shield. :bounce1

SAME. after 15 months I have never got the horn in the situation I needed it. I press it on the motorway every now and again just to here that it works. Its in a very aukward position and my thumb just does not get it in emergencies. Lucky I'm a very defensive rider (live in Asia..) so its mostly just to warn the twat after evasive action has already been made.

So unless you can actually get used to pressing the button, for me having a load horn in meaningless.

I am getting used enough to the horn position that I can use it to stop pedestrians, to keep them from walking in front f me, but in a real panic situation, I suspect that I'm just going to indicate left.

One solution is to switch the connections into the switches. It is the upward movement of the thumb that is unnatural on a BMW's horn. Hitting the left indicator switch in stead is probably a more normal movement, so making that the horn can be worthwhile.

i really can,t see what the problem is with the sound of the horn and the switch control.
surely if you practice using the horn it will come second nature when it has to be used in anger.
save your money and practice.
only my opinion.
:rob

It gets easier, yes, but it is still a less natural movement than pushing forwards. Also, if you regularly ride other bikes, you will get used to the other method again.

Normally it is not a problem, but on the odd occasion (and riding across London, you do get to use it a bit more than would be ideal) that there is a real "shit I'm going to die" moment, and you do need the horn, you can find that the reactions gained from the decades of riding other bikes override the ones learned on a BMW.

Did the guys having problems finding a home for the Magnum ever fix it?

I've just removed the stock horn now looking bemused at where there's room on a 09 R1200GS for the ice-cream.

[Mutter.. mutter... never had this problem with a R1100S and FIAMMs].

Bend the mounting bracket and screw it into the screwholes next to the recess in the right inner of the fairing on the 08 GSA

Its tight but will fit

ta muchlyo.. I'll try that.

Boogers. I think I'm not understanding something; the 'gap' for the existing horn is between the brake/abs line going to the front wheel and the front shock. Trying to get the other side of the brake/abs line nearer the fuel tank/missing charcoal canister is impossible using the provided/stock mounting arm in its default position.

You wouldn't have a pic of where the screwholes on the right hand side are? RHS when sitting on the bike?

Sorry for the questions.

Sorted. At the top of the frame above the front shock and either side of it are two holes. A nut and bolt off a Honda and bingo, plenty of space for it and the supplied wibbly wobbly arm.

This means the horn sits mid-air in front of the front shock.
