Where have you been that's unchained?

As a Brit ex-pat in the US, I took a 10k mile ride last summer to discover my new home's offerings. The ride had 22 miles of interstate only (unavoidable) and I only stayed and ate at unique one-offs, no chain restaurants or motel.

I was asked if I could put something together for others and I'm nearly there.

What I'm looking at is a reference site for unique eateries and services, where you can post comments, location (gps ref) and where others can then input a route and see where the nearest unchained services are. It needn't be a full package, a great bacon buttie or cup of tea, is enough. A clean toilet at a campsite, or a happy waiter will do.

Below is the text from the under construction page. I'd love to have your input now, so that when we launch, there will be useful info from the get go.

There are many exciting plans for Unchained and I'd be delighted if you'd come along for the ride.

I'll see if we can link to this site too, but would guess we need some traffic first.

Welcome to Unchained

The simple goal of this site is to banish bland.

Here you can share the splendidly diverse experiences of fellow travelers who have commended services that have excelled.
You can add your own recommendations, be it a particularly pleasant pie, a ‘fluffsom’ bath-towel, a vista that cries ‘gaze in awe’, or a simple, but heartfelt, smile.

To achieve this, Unchained is designed to promote the individualistic, to champion the creative, to share the obscure and highlight those establishments that offer exceptional value.
The only criteria?
They must be one-offs and not part of corporate chains.

To establish the credibility of Unchained, only referrals made by you, the travellers, seekers and discoverers of outstanding service will be included. All that’s required is, you share your discoveries with others.

Record details of the provider, their location (GPS ref if available) and share your comments in Unchained and you will be able to see where others recommend too. Input your trip and see a locator of Unchained services that are near your planned route, plus what fellow travelers have discovered there.

Try an unchained venue or service for yourself, then, add your comments.

If you value diversity, then you too, will want to banish bland and become Unchained.

While this site is under construction, you can post your Unchained recommendations to:

Thank you.

Essex unchained

Come on Essex, there's got to be somewhere worth mentioning, what about the cafe on Mersea Island for it's fried slice, or the pasties at the cafe opposite the toilets on Mersea, or perhaps, the company sheds for fish.

I'd even take the Ace Cafe for its place in biking history, even if they do put a garni on a bacon buttie...garni f' cryin'out loud.

And you other counties, you must have some gems to share.

Heybridge Basin nr Maldon

Can anyone tell me if the pubs at Heybridge Basin, are unchained and what they are called, also isn't there a tea room there with a terrace? Does anyone have experience of them?

Also, addresses please.

I'd go myself but Seattle is too far away.

They use lips and spleen y'know

Should I assume that everyone in the SE is busy stuffing their faces at fast food giants, or are you all out riding to small unchaineds?

If it's the former, then I understand that a stomach pump can get in the way of a keyboard so there'll be nothing from you. If it's the latter, then come on folk, let's have some recommendations sent to

http://www.unchainedworld.com

email them to:

Thanks
