hi all,
got the v5 in the post today & checked the frame / engine no
the possible problem isnt the frame no it matches the doc but engine no
doesnt match the no on the right side stamped behind the injector unit
it looks like I'm looking at the first gearbox housing & maybe not the engine no ???
anyone know if I am looking at the engine no or a gearbox no?
on the bike its 0******+ 3 aphas & the v5 is mostly numbers with a few '
alpha's in the middle??
cheers
John

You're looking at the gearbox number :augie
check under the right hand cylinder towards the front part) its near the timing chain tensioner bolt i believe :thumb

right you are!!
cheers for the fast reply, the numbers match !!!
was sh**ing myseft thinking I got a bike with a dodgy engine LOL
panic over I owe you a beer dude!!!
look for me on a black 1150 on the road
cant say how happy I am to sort that out !!

No worries John, i bet its not something that most of us check (i rarely do)
now no more more fretting, just wait for the heat wave coming and enjoy:cool

And the moral of the story is even if you are buying from a dealer check the engine and chassis numbers before you buy !

I've unfortunately seen too many people stung buying 'ringers' , vehicles with stolen motors in them or stolen vehicles that haven't even had numbers altered and lost large amounts of money in the process.

THIS ALSO INCLUDES MAIN DEALERS WHO HAVE TAKEN SUCH VEHICLES IN AS A PART EX AND THEN SOLD THEM ON OR TRIED TO.

Do your homework, find out where the numbers are on the model you are looking at and check out a couple of known legit examples to see what the numbers look like (the type of stamping and pattern plus the way they run on the headstock etc and any other id marks for that model).

Always do an HPI check ,scrutinise the docs (V5c etc ) to see if they appear legit and if they donn't look right walk away then phone the police and grass the seller up.

It may seem paranoid but its your hard earned money and if the bike turns out to be dodgy you are NEVER going to get legitimate ownership and probably not your pound of flesh from the seller.

fair point mate,
I was thinking it was all good as I got mine from a main dealer,
I'm glad it worked out ok for me but I should have checked at the shop to be sure.

btw :beerjug::beerjug:got mine from BMW in stroud and had a problem with the front brake disks, I took it back a week later & they saw the disks were warped & badly pitted,
they were happy to put new disks on & also replaced the pads for good measure all under the 3 month cover they gave with the bike

Top service & I will use them for parts & anything I need, when I change they will be the first place I go for my next bike (it may be a while tho!!!)
very good service I think !!!
Cheers
John

if you got it from a bmw dealer, they should have given you a 12 month warranty, and 12 month breakdown as part of their 2nd hand deal:nenau
