Hello, I am just doing the paper work to ship my 2005 R1200GS to the UK & they require the engine number. Where is it placed on the engine?
Many Thanks in advance.

Not sure about engine number. On my 2006 bike there is a frame number on steering yoke just in front of tank.

Also on left hand side there is a label stuck on the frame with numbers. Im not sure if these are the ones you require.

Most oil/air cooled twins have it engraved near the right-hand cylinder base. I'm not certain where it is on a 1200 but if you leave the engine number blank on the forms, it won't make any difference. DVLA accepts that few other countries record the engine number on registration. It's not a legal UK requirement anyway (the Legislation requires the VIN Stamp, VIN Plate and one major component to be marked to meet Type-Approval. Thereafter, only the VIN is legislation protected).

It's wet outside so I haven't checked on this, but have a look under the right cylinder, I seem to remember there's a milled section of the engine case with the number stamped on it.

Many Thanks all, I shall go & have a look as I have my last ride in the States this morning.... :beerjug:

Thanks All,
Kinda struggling right now as I possibly had my last ride in the States. Been here 20 years & have met some wonderful friends. No matter what your fellings are to the Americans, I have never met a more friendly, hospitable & generous group of peoples in my life & I have travelled & lived in the four corners of this earth.

It has indeed been a pleasure...... :beerjug:

Oh well....time to drain the remaining fuel outta my bikes for shipping.

PS. How's the weather in the UK ?? A nice sunny 80 deg F here ...... :thumb
