WHERE IS THE ROAD IN THE PHOTO LOCATED

Lovely pass, must have taken a very long time to lay those sets and a pity that recent repairs have been with tarmac.

Not my video but:

There's a great track that heads off to the right in the OP's picture behind the mountain:thumb2

Since 2008, they have been replacing the small tarmac repair patches with cobbles. little by little each year but the majority have been replaced ;)

That's good news, I'm taking a friend to the Alps this summer it's the first time he's been and I'm planning on taking him down here so it'll be nice to see it in it's former glory :thumb

On my route this summer, unless its wet in which case I may dodge the cobbles

The Gotthard road is on my route from Thusis to Grindelwald this summer, however depending upon conditions I may only venture south off my main route between the oberalp and furkapass down and loop around the lago della Piazza before returning north to resume my journey to Grindelwald

When I first saw that picture I thought "wow, like to do that one". As it turns out I did last year! :blast Never saw it from that angle though. I'm guessing that photo was taken from the newer bypass road? :nenau

Nope the view from the layby on the north side of the 'newer pass road' avalanche protection tunnel is like this, so my guess is that the photo was taken further downhill, either inside of the tunnel or on the roof of it

The Tremola rejoins the newer pass road near this switchback, you can carry on down on the old road but its nothing special after this point.
