Hi

I am visiting Ireland and would greatly appreciate some route and location advice. As it stands we (wife and I) will be leaving Trim (I have some business here) on Saturday August 1st morning and need to be back for the ferry at Dublin on Tuesday mid day.

Apart from that the only plan is only to see the quieter parts of the south and south west coasts and stay in small coastal villages rather than busy towns. A few mountain roads (as far away from the hordes of tourist as will be possible!) would be good too.

We are looking for some tips on where to ride and where to stay. Based on advice received I will put together a route.

Thanks in advance to all who respond

Cheers

Have you browsed through http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49439 ?

While a majority of the advice is for northern areas, there is some good info on other areas including the west/south west.

It looks like you are NOT on a bike .......... but that may influence the advice you get ??

Dont underestimate the travelling time for minor/back roads.

There are a lot of local festivals in Ireland and that weekend is a bank holiday over here, so expect the roads and towns to be a bit more lively than normal:D. By the same reasoning, while you would normally have no difficulty rolling into most small towns/townlands and getting very good quality B&B without advance booking, it will be a busy weekend for this type of accommodation, I suspect. It might be worthwhile putting a bit of thought into a planned route and then folks on here can advise accordingly............

Hi Vireo

I am on the bike - would not travel by car in August unless absolutely necessary.

I will check out the link - cheers

If you get out of Trim early on Sat you will see a lot of Ireland and have a lot of craic. It is not easy in that you have to put in the hours on the bike but it is rewarding.
I'll be doing it for about the 20th time and highly recommend it.
