.... le Col de Parpillon? .... if indeed that is the right name.

One of Forry's pictures looked familiar - as it happens it was in the wrong mountain range to the one I thought :blast

So I dug-out and scanned some pictures of one afternoon in 1993, being led around the Alps by an amaiable nutter called George Cherry :bow

We milled around in a village, George getting attacked by a sheep/goat dog and due to his insistance on wearing hiking boots whilst riding, lost some blood to the hound... fortunately George had found the trail up the pass and it soon opened out into a substantial valley...

...smooth gravel...

....after climbing a fair while, we ended up at the entrance to a tunnel - There were loads of cyclist there - they must've been fit as feck.
I could tell we were at altitude because I was gasping and it was cold.

In the Winter months they shut the tunnel doors, both ends.

Inside the tunnel icy ruts made by 4 wheelers were filled with water and icicles hung from the ceiling and walls...

Out the other side in blazing sunshine...

...and the trail went on....

Eventually we got back to tarmac, I remember "Le Tour" was on and we stayed at Alp d'Huez that night....

:beerjug:

So.... can anybody show me, on a map or via GPS gubbins where the feck that trail is?

It's not a quiz, I'd just love to know where I was...

:blast
