Hi all

I need to respray the fairing on my R80GS. It's Marakesh Red. Can I just go to Halfords and buy a couple of cans, or where else ? I've heard reference to a spray shop in other threads, but at the risk of being totally embarrassed by the question, what's a paint shop ?

I'm not looking to do an amazing job, just want it to be red and shiny !

Cheers

Someone on here will probably have the RAL reference and you should be able to order it from a paint supplier. Easiest way is to get it from a BMW dealer or Motobins/Motorworks

Halfords mixed 1/2 litre spray can for me from the BMW paint code.

Mike,

Halfords have a new policy of only supplying 100ml of paint in a single tin so you may struggle to buy enough to do a fairing. They will sell you several tins though :nenau

Hex holdings will mix paint up for you but to be honest I haven't been to enamoured with their colour matching so check the colour before you spray. List of branches here http://www.hex.co.uk/branches.htm

R and S paints do a very good service with bike colours to match even quite old models and they are cheaper than Halfords

Ive used RS paints for my RT,(can be seen in my thread on the rebuild)
Their delivery was excellent and the quality and match were superb. They have all the colour codes too. Very good for painting advice too.
check them out on the net.

Ask your local body shop where they get their paints from, they will likely have a fairly local source who mix up paints for them to order. At least thats how it works round here anyway.

I rang RS paints on friday last and asked about paint tor the Zundapp. Sent the bloke there a pic of the original left on the frame and they replied within the hour that they could do the paint. Ordered and arrived today. excellent sewrvice though a bit pricey but I recom it will do the job nicely.
Their paint that I used last did'nt blob like the Halfords stuff did at the end of the tin.

Just located the receipt from Motorworks. Aerosol Marakesh Red 392 part number PAA09849 £12.00 with the 'new' VAT rip off :thumb2

Yes well I phoned Motorworks 2 minutes after you told me that, they said they stopped stocking it 5 years ago and it's no longer available:confused::mad:

This is how it works everywhere, generally known as paint factors or similer
here is one I found for your area although there may be others closer.

Car Paint Warehouse
Motor Factors (Warehouses Wholesalers) serving Bristol area
Shaunak House, Netham Road, Bristol, Avon, BS5 9PJ
Tel: 0117-955 4797

If you phone them they will explain what they can do for you, the colour name you have may be sufficient, they will also offer a colour matching service, so if you have a sample of the red you want to use they will make a quantity up to your needs.:thumb2
