I want to change to Stainless on my 1150SE but want to buy just one kit with all the best bits in?
Has anyone got a good supplier who has everything covered or a list of the sizes need to do the important bit?

Thanks in Advance
Beano

MAy One point sir in the direction of Monsieur Steptoe of Lahndon town!

When I asked Steptoe I thought he said his kits were GS, not GSA (I don't know the difference though)

Direct lift from his excellent shop site:

Stainless steel nut and bolts kits for the R1150GS ABS

Fabricated in A2 (304) grade stainless steel.

The image of the stainless kit is a library image not the actual kit, the actual kit contents are described accurately below.

All the nuts, bolts, washers including exhaust nuts for your 1150GS, (except shock absorber mountings, rear disc, gearbox and rear bevel drain plugs)
All items are bagged from A to N
Fitting instructions of what goes where included.

This kit is far more comprehensive than most kits available sold at over twice the price of these.

This kit is specifically for the R1150GS ABS but can be used by non-ABS users and Adventure owners, for adventure the only difference are the under seat bolts, and the 2 longer screen bolts

1100GS owners can use a lot of this kit but not all.

Well I'll be buggered ... he lost himself a sale there then :drool

There is always the possibility that my memory has failed again and I asked someone else about a different kit for a different bike ;-)

How hard are these kits to fit - do I have to do hours of tedious spannering:(

Standard GS and ADV have the same engine, engine covers, injectors, gearbox, forks, fork brace, instruments, footrests, ABS, fairing frame, rear subframe, wheels ( colour is the only diffrence), brake calipers (front and rear), beak mounts, tank mounts, brake and clutch fluid reservours, handlebars and switchgear etc etc.

Basically as Judge has posted. And if you've a ADV you'll have a few bolts left over as they have one seat, where's the standard GS has two seats.

With my kit you just throw the kit in the air and all the bolts, nuts, screws and washers all land in place.

Have they all gone ?? Cant see any left in the shop ?? :augie

You haven't got a set for an ( 05 ) 1150 GSA tucked under a bench have you pleeese MR STEPTOE??:aidan :aidan

Cheers

Phil

I asked Steptoe a few weeks ago and I believe he's got the bits just not made into the kits at the moment.

When he gets round to it I'll buy one :thumb

Hi there, a lowley F650GS single 2001 would like a stainless kit to farkle with but I cannot seem to find one, any ideas?

Oh and what is your advice on use or need for coperslip and torque settings for stainless replacements - seems like there are differences of opinion on this topic?

Can't help you with where to source a stainless kit for your 650 but it is important to use some sort of anti corrosion / galling compound when you use stainless fasteners in alloy. Many use coppaslip (I do) but some say this is incorrect for this application. That said, I've been using it for 25 years without problem :nenau If you want to be ultra correct you should use a zinc chromate paste specifically designed for stainless into alloy - something like duralac. It's important however, that you use something.

As to torque settings - you can forget the factory torques once you've slathered everything in a lubricant (unless they are specifically for oiled components like cylinder head nuts). Any percentage adjustments are complete guesswork - you're better off doing it by feel.

just my 2p
