Where to locate navigator 4 button mount r1100gs

Hi
Just bought a nav 5 and the 4 button mount to use on R1100GS.

Mounting to bike - Any advice what else i need to buy and where to locate, ideally i want it straight ahead, am trying to avoid paying for a brand new migsel (if poss) as expensive new and would also need ram parts , would the crossbar be ok or too low? what do you guys with navigators use to fix to bike and where?

If you can get hold of a Touratech mount and some Ram mounts I think I used a kit, not the cheapest option but is nicely in view and out of the way.

Here's what I did..

Ball mount to one of handlebar clamps
Long Ram arm

Works well...

MIGSEL mount.

Fits around the speedo unit.
Neat, tidy, unobtrusive and looks like a factory fitting.

I have mine like Rich's picture. I prefer the short extension so the unit sits real close to the handlebar brace

The Migsel brace is the neatest and most OE solution but... your sat nav is way up front which makes it a long reach to fiddle with .. not that I would ever consider doing such a thing obviously when on the move officer..

Migsel mount is great for tar road use, but the weight of the GPS can cause the (rubber mounted) instruments to shake violently causing the sat nav to move on it's mount or even hit the screen. Mounting on the bars or clamps is much better if you're riding crap roads. I am in Namibia at the moment, and the roads are in shocking condition in many places - I moved my Garmin 340 to a ball mount on the handlebar clamp and it is much more solid.
