Where to mount the radio?

Hi Guy's,

I have fitted a new 2009 Autocom in the tool tray, along with all the cables, the power supply for the GPS, and such like that area is now full.

This presents me the problem of where and how to mount the bike to bike radio it's self.

I am thinking of simply utting it in some small soft luggage bag on the rear carrier (dont have a top box, dont want one) but I wonder if anyone has come up with a better solution?

I bought an in car mobile phone holder with a bendy stem and a suction pad. I have mounted it on the inside of my windscreen on the left. I cut a strip out of an old wheelbarrow inner tube and wrap that around the bottom like a big elastic band to help keep it in place. It's been fine so far but it does vibrate a lot as the screen obviously moves a fair bit. I'm thinking of finding some way of attaching the phone holder to the bars in the future.

The holder cost about £15.

TT do a bag that is designed to fit in the wasted space under the rear rack on the 12GS. You can stick the radio in there and easily run a coax out to a number plate mounted external ant as well.

One thing that is worth doing though is running a couple of wires to a switch up near the controls so that you can turn the radio on and off without having to mess around. Sometimes you can find yourself in an area where there is a lot of other radio traffic and its nice to be able to switch the RF off.

Could move the autocom unit to under the front of the seat, mounted vertically where the rider handbook sits. This would leave the tool tray to hold the radio.

Wherever you put it, try to avoid heat, damp and vibration. They don't like it up 'em!
