Where to ride out of Cherbourg for one day?

I am off over to Cherbourg on Sunday for the days riding - arriving at 11am and checking back in at 7pm. Where would you recommend i go with the 8hours I have - i am thinking of the normandy beaches, or maybe down to mont St Michel for lunch.

Normandy beaches every time for me. In that time you could easily make it to Bayeux for lunch then work your way back along the coast - Port en Bessin, the American Cemetary, Vierville Sur Mer (Omaha beach), Pointe du Hoc, Grandcamp Maisy, Isigny Sur Mer, St Mere Eglise, Utah Beach then back to Cherbourg. That is a very easy going ride and worth doing.

Not forgetting Aromanches-sur-Mere for the Mulberry harbour (try to arrive near low tide) and Longues-sur-Mere battery (between Aromanches and Port-en-Bessin), still with the German guns installed.

Visited Mont St Michel this year and wasn't impressed.

Hi Bateman,
you might try to see Villedieu les Poeles, A pretty little town where the hand make wonderful Copper Pots for "real" chef's cooking.
There are "tinkers" hand beating the metal, the work shops are open but might not be working on Sunday?

Mont St. Michel.

I've only visited Mont St.Michel during the summer months (twice) and hated it. Far, far too crowded with tourists for me, mind you the walk around the ramparts was OK. It is was me, I'd go for the D-Day beaches.

Normandy beaches are good, but what about heading the other way? Leisurely lunch at Dinan by the side of the Ronce? The walled city at St Malo (if you strike lucky at the casino you might not need to worry about getting back!).
