Hi!

I'm coming over the pond! :)

Me and my boyfriend arrives Newcastle Monday 27th. of June.
We'll go up to Scotland (we have booked rooms up there) and we'll go from Edinburgh Friday 1st. of July and we have booked rooms in Goathland (''Aidensfield'', Whitby) from Saturday 2nd. of July.
As you can see we don't have booked a room for Friday 1st. yet - any ideas? -Are there something fun going on in the area Friday?

And we love to meet friends from this forum!
Keep your eyes open for an Azure Blue 2002 BMW F 650 CS Scarver and a Black 1986 BMW K 100 RS!

Liv, do you mean Newcastle upon Tyne, if so a post in the North section may be more helpfull, if its Newcastle under Lyme, then I can help! :D

Hi Les!

It's Newcastle upon Tyne, the ferry to Norway-Newcastle.

But the night we are looking for a place to stay is the night after Edinburgh and the night before we get to ''Aidensfield'' Goathland/Whitby.

Lancashire- perhaps? Morecambe? Some place between Edinburgh and Goathland, Friday 1st oh July, the night before the Live8-conserts in London and Edinburgh.

-Do you know a place nice, safe and fun for two vikings on BMW's? :)

:) Liv.

hi liv dont go to morcambe its ..erm not nice
southport is a nice place for a night ..you would have a nice route towards edinborgh from there bar the first 30 miles or so
lots of pubs resaraunts b and bs southport is on the coast ten miles from liverpool lake district 50miles junc 36 off the m6 take the a6 to penrith then the a 7 towards jedborough [edinborough if you wants some must do roads in scotland let me know i have been many times s ..... southport to edinborouhg would take about 5 hours riding on the scenic route but i warn you the firth of forth bridge approach is a nightmare

Thank you, Minkyhead!

Southport sounds fine, but do you know a nice place closer to the Roman Wall? I figured out if we want to see the roman Wall, we have to do that that Friday... -Is there much to see, or is it just some old stones? Or is it like the wall in China?

Carlisle? Maryport? Whitehaven? Anything nice and fun in that area?

Or is the road nr A713 from Ayr to Crossmichael worth to ride?

For Scotland we have an expert or two; we are staying at friends in Edinburgh, so I'm sure they can help! And we have booked rooms in Fort William.

All nights are booked, exept for one; this Friday!

:) Liv.

hi liv there not a lot out there for wild night life
could suggest winermere and bowness in the lakes ..a nice place with some watering holes pretty well placed for the ride north from there ...mary port is a one horse town not a lot going for it is in slow decline
penrith is a ok place ..so is whitby for that matter
if you opt for the west coast take the a 686 accross towards penrith further north there is a pretty place called moffat nr a74m which leaves you well placed
personally id opt for winermere and do the a6 a7 thing in the morning

leave it with you have a nice stay

And we have booked rooms in Fort William.

Liv, should you need any local advice (Fort William) I shall be happy to help, roads/walks etc.
Cheers
Gordon (aka -Highlander)

Hi Liv

My Dad lives in North Shields which I assume is where you will be arriving at, his parents were originally from Bergen although he was born in England. We were up there last week-end and went to the Roman Wall, it was a lovely day and the scenery was great, really good straight roads for bikes, (we were in a car!) however if the weather isnt good it can be a bit bleak. We live about 15 miles away from Southport, just off the M6, could offer you a comfortable floor for the night for the small price of a tin of fiskebolle (probably spelt that wrong) and some smelly cheese that I can't remember the name of but I know my mum wouldn't let him keep it in the house!! :D

Hexham

Check out a town called Hexham near to Hadrians wall and about 30-40 mins west of Newcastle. If this is not too close to Newcastle for you I can recommend a very nice hotel in a small village close to Hexham. It was previously a castle, set in some lovely countryside. cant quite recall the name but I can find out for you.

This sounds perfect!

We looked at the map tonight and we started to think maybe Alston could be a place for us, and Hexham is in the area.
At my map I can see a place called Wall; -is that where the castle is?
I hope it is a ghost there! :D Buhuuuhaaa!!

:) Liv.

Liv,
Hexam is a very nice city (and a small city). I spent a holiday there many years ago in a village just to the North called "Wall". The whole area is very nice and I'm sure you will easily find a B&B (Pensjon). HAve fun on you travels.

Langley Castle Hotel

Liv,

Found the place . Check out www.langleycastle.com

Its been a few years since I stayed there ( 2 yrs runnning ). I am about 150 miles south. From memory its pretty much in Hexham, just on the outskirts of the town set on a hill surrounded by trees. The hotel was a castle and you can stay inside the castle itself or in a modern annexe that was just being finished last time I was there.

Hope you have a great time

Ian;)

Liv,

if you've got a day between Edinburgh & Whitby, have a look around the Scottish borders area, Jedburgh, Coldshield, follow the coast down from Lindisfarne through Bamburgh to the castle, carry on to Craster. Have a look at Alnwick castle or head in land to Craigside (the first place in the world to have electric lights.
Over from Craigside towards Penrith is Housteads, the most complete Roman fort on Hadrians wall.
Barnard Castle is very nice.
Durham Cathederal is stunning - as are most of the roads in between.
Stay off the main roads if you can, the little ones are much more interesting(but you know this already, you ride a GS, it's what they are for.)

I know it's very nice, but if you can avoid Newcastle/Middlesborough you'll enjoy the ride more.

Try www.nationaltrust.org.uk
www.bamburghcastle.com
www.alnwickgarden.com
www.northumberlandtourism.com

The north west is wonderful, but why flog it down, just to go back when there's so much in the north east.
Come again & then do the north west.

Have a great trip.
Steve

Thank you, all of you!

Wow! :)

I have to sit down for hours with my maps!
If we can't figure out somthing now - then I have a problem!

I guess Friday night we'll be some place close to the Roman Wall, Hexham or Wall, and if we don't ride the funny roads from Newcastle to Edinburgh Monday 27th. June then I guess we'll do that Friday 1st. July.
But I have to look at the map first!

The Lanley Castle looks perfect, but the prizes don't... It's not a B&B, I can tell! But again; a castle is special! -Perhaps the annexe is more suitable for our wallets?

Tattiehead;
I don't think we are going to Southport, so you have to find another way to get your hands on a box of the famous Vesterålens Fiskeboller, I'm sorry!
But the cheese; is it Pultost you mean? Ugh! But try some Gudbrandsdalsost (a kind of Geitost light); 99% of the Norwegians love that! It is made of milk from cow and goat.

Minkyhead:
If you stay in Oslo Wednesday evening; find my favorite cafè, Tyrigrava, and go there! A lot of bikes in sunny weather! Find the lake Gjersjøen just outside Oslo, south-east, and ride the funny road from Oslo Fjordcamping to the amusement park Tusenfryd, then you get can't miss Tyrigrava Kro.

G.C.
Gordon!
I don't know if we get good information from our friends in Edinburgh, but if we need your help we have to call you. Wednesday 29th. June is the day we don't have planes jet, we only know we are going to stay in Fort William from 28th evening to 30th morning.

And Steve Chip:
I have to check out all your links!

Thank you all!
If you want to e-mail me, here is the adress:

Cheers!

Hi Liv,

Gudbrandsdalsost sounds good as Geitost is already a favourite, the smelly one I was thinking of is called Gameloste (Just know I've spelt that wrong too!!) Shame about the fiskebolle I'll just have to try making my own again, anyway, wherever you decide to stay I'm sure you'll have a really good time.

Have Fun!!:D
