OK

All the smeggy work done, holes cut, wires connected etc. But con't for the life of me find a suitable spot for the ballast box. My 1150ADV has ABS , so can't stick it where others have. Had a look under the beak, and can't see how to do it there either. Checked the site and can only find advice for 1200 owners.
So, anyone with an 1150ADV fitted HID? and of so, where did you put your ballast plleeeeeeeease?

Mount it in the main frame - Mines been there for over 2 years without any problems

The box in place - Out of the way, safe and well protected .

From underneth

Mine is under the dash on the RHS - behind the headlight basically. Plenty of room - bolted the cage it sits in on that handy bolt at the bottom. Nice and handy for the wiring, and out of the weather etc.:thumb

I fitted HID's to both main and dip on my 02 adventure
i took the tank off and mounted the ballasts on the frame near the alternator , held on with big cable ties
fits a treat and does not get in the way of anything.
Did take pictures but cannot find them now , but much neater that mounting under beak
just make sure you only secure the ballasts after you have made sure you have sufficient slack cable to reach the light and get full lock both sides.
Remember that the main beam ballast needs to be about an inch further forward than the dip as the lamp is smaller
been OK for last 18 months

Best money you can spend on a GS !

That where mine are.. but got no photos sorry..

Thanks all

Fitted the ballast behind the high beam, cable tidy'd it in, and all tickety-boo.
Went to the North West meet last night to try out the HID. I think it's great!

Any idea if it would fit behind the nose fairing panel, a bit like where this fusebox is?

Do ballasts get hot when in use? I don't want to cook fairing panels or the ballast. With a current rating of 3.2A for a 35W bulb, there's only going to be a couple of watts of heat to get rid of, so it shouldn't be too bad.
