El Minky said:Just got back from 2100 miles down to Italy and back on my '06 gs (my '04 barely made it out of my road without breaking down!)with the missus on the back, bike ran perfectly, never missed a beat, only used 1/4 of the windows worth of oil, luggage didn't fall off, in fact as far as the bike was concerned, totally drama free. Brilliant!
Except....
On the way back we were sitting in a bar discussing this marvel of German engineering when the subject of 'grin factor' arose, or rather the lack of it!
We have made many longish trips on a variety of bikes, Aprilias, Triumphs, Harleys and every single one of them has had us grinning from ear to ear by the first petrol stop..... If we go out on my HD softail we start laughing before the end of the road! (might just be the loud pipes though)
Its just not there on the Beemer, I'd noticed this before but I thought it was me being odd, but no, from the crows nest behind me she noticed the same lacking.
Result? It has to go, its brilliant but theres no grin factor. Have I missed something? In thirty years of riding I can't remember the last bike I rode that lacked it (it was probably Japanese though) and that even includes Enfield Bullets in India!
How sad, a brilliant capable bike but....It doesn't make me grin...therefore it doesn't fulfill its primary role in (my) life!
So if you want a fully specced '06 GS............
