Hello! Just bought a 2006 GS1200 with expandable luggage which is otherwise in standard form. Are the winglets a good idea and if so what else would be deemed a must have? Thanks very much.:beerjug:

Touratech handlebar bag, brilliant for the wee things you want to hand or for putting your phone in for charging (if youve put an extra 12v socket in the cockpit).
Wunderlich yolk mount thermometer.
Touratech rear pack for under the topbox, good for waterproofs.(still fits if you change to givi rack or similar, just a bit less useful space).

Lighter, deeper exhaust. Somehting like, oh I don't know, just picking one at random.... a Laser Duotech. You could pick up a secondhand stainless steel/titanium one for £400 plus postage... :augie

Oh God, theres so much shite you can buy for these things some look like they`ve been ridden through Halfords with evostick on them, bit like mine :augie

Have a look through here and see what you need, I suggest a Mudsling :thumb2

I despair :blast

Apart from Brendan's input: Ride the fecker and find out what you need!!

Depends where and when you plan to ride.

If you are just going to ride on the road, then nothing is essential. HIDs would be a good idea for extra visibility. If you are going to ride through the UK winter then winglets are a good idea.

If you are planning on taking the bike off road - get the BMW large bashplate and of course knobblies.

Plus decent puncture repair kit (eg stop n go) & pump.

Otherwise just ride the fecker.

And dont succumb to bling for the sake of it (which I guess is where Mr K is coming from).

You can load the thing up till it falls over, put a few toys on mine though, top of list would be better headlight & spots, Les Wassell sorted mine out, top bloke & great service.

Someone has already mentioned petrol, so I'd plump for insurance and a bike licence, and then ride the damn thing. You might be able to work out what you need, rather than what others have needed.

Cylinder head protectors / covers. Saved my left side from some nasty scrapeage last Sunday after a mishap with an Audi that pulled out on me on a roundabout! :blast

I would be interested to know if the head protectors did as good a job as engine bars may do. What type of impact did your head (the bike's:rolleyes:) receive?
