Hi

I'm looking at getting a new Jacket.

Not sure which one to go for, but i want to get a Belstaff one as the others i have had have been faultless.

I'm torn between the 2 listed below so if any of you have got any experience etc of them please let me know..

Jacket 1 http://www.britishmotorcyclegear.com/detail.asp?Product_ID=2001

Jacket 2 http://www.britishmotorcyclegear.com/detail.asp?Product_ID=2004

Both i think have good qualities.

I want a Vented Jacket for the summer, but also good protection.

I have looked at others but they are too small i need a BIG size (well it is for a fatty)

Does anyone have any UK supplier contacts?? not a problem getting it from the USA but someone might know a UK importer.

Votes Please Jacket 1 or Jacket 2.

I think Belstaffs owners ceased trading recently, a lot of their gear was going cheap at the bike shows.

Call me a traditionalist but I bought mine a year ago, quality kit this.....:thumb

Belstaff was sold, But http://www.britishmotorcyclegear.com have started making and selling it..

They have indeed. I had a discussion with the MD of British Motorcycle Gear in their tent in the infield at last year's Laguna Seca Moto GP. At that time he had no UK distributor and no plans for one. Also, ISTR that the terms of the sale of the Belstaff name to the Italian designer chappie who now makes trendy gear for effete Milanese scooter riders, included a clause that motorcycle gear bearing the Belstaff name couldn't be sold in the UK after July or August last year. So there's little hope of seeing the stuff on sale in the UK.

Having said that, I benefitted from the sale of Belstaff kit and I have the Adventure Jacket and the matching trousers which are no longer produced. The jacket is made from quite a stiff fabric. It feels as if it would be quite protective and abrasion resistant and it has pockets to take Knox armour. The venting is very effective. There are vents on the shoulders in line with the collarbone and vertical ones in the back of the jacket at the sides. The sleeves also have long zips with a mesh fabric behind them. It's all very effective at venting in hot weather. The sleeves are removable but this isn't such a clever design as the elbow armour is in the sleeves themselves, rather than in an inner mesh liner like some similar jackets.

The jacket makes no pretence to being waterproof. In fact it comes with a waterproof rain jacket which is designed to be worn over it but this not a breathable garment. I've always fancied a BMW Rallye Gore-Tex liner for my jacket but haven't been able to find one at a reasonable price. ISTR that the jacket only cost me c. £80 when my local dealer was selling them off.

I stand corrected, thanks for the info. Lets hope that it gets resurrected as a brand in the UK sometime, the name Belstaff has been synonymous with quality bike kit 'since I were a lad.'

I don't think I'm being unduly pessimistic to suggest that we won't see Belstaff motorcycle kit marketed again in the UK. The money is in overpriced designer tat for the beautiful people.

Have a look for yourself...... http://www.belstaff.com/#
