I think this is the right place for this question, and I assume it has been asked before.

I need a new set of boots and can't afford to have a set for every purpose. Criteria are:

- waterproof
- provide protection for off-roading
- can walk a reasonable distance in them
- value for money
- warm in winter
- cool in summer (ok probably stretching my luck with the last two)
- good fit for fat calves

So if you could only buy one pair which would it be? :thumb

Hein Gericke Tuareg.
Gore-Tex,warm,comfortable to ride and walk in,decent off road protection, last forever (mine are in their 3rd year of ownership). :clap
Cheaper than the almost identical BMW version, Savanah?

BMW Contur boots cover most of those pretty well for me.

Could be a bit warmer in Winter (but who needs warm boots with a Boxer unless, like me, you have an RT where the fairing shields you from the cylinders :( ). Not sure about the off road bit. Ticks all your other boxes. I think the Contur Plus may be a better shape for the fuller calf.

Its coming up for sale time so maybe some around at a reasonable price. I know NOG have quite a few BM boots with 25% off and I'm sure that's negotiable. Not sure which models though. Bigger reductions later in the Winter I suspect.

I have two pairs - 1 for road (Daytona Roadstar GTX) and one for dirt (Alpinestars Vector). I have (ahem :o ) LARGE calves and both fit me easily and with comfort - although I had to buy a size bigger than normal in the Alpinestars.

However if I was trying to do it all with one boot the Daytona Trans Open GTX seem a great compromise to me. They have elements of off-road styling ( shin plate, steel toe guard, commando sole, high tops) but they are comfy and supremely waterproof. My roadstars are the best boots I've ever had. They also have two zips at the front and two velcro strips at the back to allow you to adjust them perfectly in the calf area.

Agree with Eric Altberg :thumb

For comfort price and after sales service, why go elsewhere :nenau

That was quick

Thanks for this, time to hit the shops, try them on and, of course, secure a bargain. :thumb

When you say you have larg calves how large would they be?? I have stock legs and large calves and cant get boots to do up because my calves are so big (20"). I used to have Sidi Moto Cross boots (can't remember model) but the were imposible to work in for more than a few hundred yards.

Which did you go for?

I have large calves: few boots fit.

I have found Daytona to be the best, although I cannot get leathers inside them. Therefore, I ride with leathers on the outside much the same as if riding in the winter cordura gear. People can't see the expensive logos but I'm comfortable.

I've also found Daytona quality to be excellent. Waterproofing is excellent and comfort very good.

Agreeing with Mutley again, I'd have two sets if I was off-roading on a regular basis. I don't think any decent MotoX boot would be comfortable on a long tour: especially if you want to have a bit of a walk around something interesting along the way. This probably does not fit into the OP's economic rationale though.

Had to look for new boots after I ruptured my achilles tendon and I had one calf larger than the other. Found the Hein Gericke Tuareg perfect for the job. At £139 best boots I've had. :clap

HG do an A Stars boot that sports/touring, goretex lined and sells at £149. Unsure of the name .

Anybody hasve any experience of this boot as I am considering them as a replacement for my worn out Sidi Evo Rains?

Hi Rushy, I have owned some a/stars mx goretex boot for a few years now and they have been 100% waterproof, just had them resoled. Excellent kit.

I'm looking at Sidi Couriers for next time - have never had a 'waterproof' pair thats lasted more than 2 years (of daily use). Those galoshes type things that zip around your boots have saved more than one miserable joureny before now. :bounce1

Just bought my second pair of Fre Daytona boots, as the first pair lasted 5 years of daily use. Awesome boots, dry, warm, comfy. Spot on.

Would post a pic, but don't know how.
