For all you less is more, tiny tent brigade, if you like grovelling on your hands and knees, and looked like your trying to to do Kenny the kipper while trying to get dressed in the mornings go for it

Me I like to swing my legs over the side of the camp bed , get dressed whilst standing up, and walk out of my tent in the morning,

It's an age thing, you don't buy an adventure bike to pack light lol
WIth reference to the camp bed. Which one do you use/have/prefer? I'm asking because I'm also a bit tired of using a mattress. Thanks.

Apologies for going off on a tangent.

I’ve stsrted you a fresh thread under a fresh topic heading.

Question one: By car or by bike?

I ask only as camp beds vary by weight and packed size and, as a consequence (to some degree or another) comfort.

Question two: How much are yiu looking to spend?

The cost / quality varies enormously. Here is an example:

It’s at the high end cost wise but from the very popular Helinox company….. and it will bear a lot of weight, which might be important.

I had one for a couple of years or so, which was the Helinox Lite Cot. It was small enough to squeeze into a Pannier, and was easy enough to put up/take down whilst inside a tent.

Even though i am not a tall/wide build, i did find the bed a little narrow. And if i was buying one again, i'd certainly look to get something a bit wider.

Here’s a pretty good array of potential items:

I slept on one of these for two months, when I moved home. Perfectly good enough. I still use it now, if going by car:

I bought it (or something very similar) in France, years ago, for pennies in an end of summer sale.

Halfords offer this one and I’ve found it more than adequate, it’s not small, but packs well and easy to carry both by me and on the bike.

Good question and something I could have made clear.

Q1.
It's the car for me so not really worried about packed size. Looking on the link you posted I'm ordering the Outwell Posadas. It seems very strong as it's made of steel. It's also 45cm above the ground and would be a luxury getting in and out of bed instead of flailing around on the floor.

Q2.
Not too bothered about the cost as I only want a basic one as above.

Thanks for posting.👍

It also depends on what size tent it’s going in. If you have a fairly low tent a taller bed will have your face touching the roof.

One tip, if it’s going in a tent.

After, as Udders says, checking the size, buy a few of those simple side stand things, which you put under your motorcycle’s side stand, when parking in boggy fields.

They spread the weight of rack leg, reducing the risk of the leg(s) ripping through the tent floor. Keep them in the same bag as the bed goes into.

I tried one of the small clip in w leg type things

Unfortunately they have no bracing longitudinally, so if you tried to shuffle down or up the bed, it would collapse

You had to sort of roll into and out of bed

Used once, back in the bag

I then tried a Tesco's special, ally x frame item

The x frame is the legs x3 and tensioned by the end bars

Good but if kit, stable, and a good height off the ground, you can sit on it sideways it's at that height

The downside

It's a big unit to pack, it's just over GS compressed pannier width on bike, and it weighs a bit about 20lb

And at 93cm long it's just a tad wide for a

Std tent, I have to put it diagonally in my biker

plus tent, and even then it's touching the inner

tent, but for comfort, no issues, just need to remember I need a pillow
