What PMR channel do GSers use for bike-to-bike comms?

Z3 owners have a standard of channel 2, sub channel 3. I briefly thought about channel 7, subchannel 19 (spells GS), but that sounds too difficult.

I'm aware of how difficult it is for Kenwood owners to change the channel on their sets, so do you keep them set to channel 1?

Hi Tim

in my experience of using 'cheaper' PMR radios bike to bike I've found on a number of occasions that communications became impossible once over about 40 mph when a separate sub channel was selected (CTSS tones or whatever).

Using the same radios on one of the standard 8 channels seemed to work fine?

I have experienced this with Alan456 (my current radio) and some slighly older motorolas.

I should add that this was communicating between identical pairs of radios (e.g. Alan 456 to Alan456).

Overall I have found the Alan456 to be an excellent piece of kit. Good price (around £50) Batteries last for ages and ages, good clear comms.

YMMV etc

Cheers

The question is a little more difficult than 'which channel do you use?' since different manufacturers use different default channel settings.

I think that you have to ask:

  1. Which frequency do GSers usually use?
  2. Which QT/DQT (CTSS) codes do GSers usually use?
    [/list=1]

Actually, the answer is I don't know.

I prefer using Kenwood 3101/3201 default channel 13, as it has digital codes and the Icom unit can be set to match this channel.

I was thinking more of the fact the radio might be mounted under the seat.

In the States, Talkabout owners use hand signals to indicate the channel, but if you're tanking down the road on a bike...
