having a bit of a problem with my r60/5 in that when i get into 4th and the engine gets warm, she will lose power even when revving, now i have checked my fuel delivery and made sure i dont have a vacuum in the tank so i would like to change coils and HT leads, but, being a novice at this when i took the tank off and had a look i have two coils which are slightly different sizes to each other but when i look at motobins website at coils for this make/year they are all the same size!, stupid question probably but does this make a difference?

thanks in advance

i take it the question was too stupid for the experts to answer.?

hey ho.

You'll need to wait for Proff for chapter & verse :blast.

It sounds to me (knowing very little about the R60/5) that someone has swapped a coil in the past and has fitted a slightly different model.

I can't believe they should be different :nenau.

If no-one else replies, I'd go for the Motobins option :thumb.

Both coils are meant to be the same so my guess that during the last 40 years or so, one of them has been changed. I seem to remember but stand to be corrected that the originals are 6v coils connected in series and that a common mod is to replace both coils with a 12v twin output one

Could be talking complete bollix as its late and :beer:

What happens if you change down to 3rd? why do you think it is coil related?

not 100% sure its coil related but thought i would change them as 1 of the numerous things it could be!!!, the problem doesnt seem to happen until the engine is warm, and in higher revs, but one it happens i can go down through the gears, and the problem is still there, until i have stopped for a few seconds.!!!

i have checked fuel supply so electrics were my next thing!

had the same problem with an r80 rt I picked up turned out to be either float bowl level, the r80 should have 21/ 22 mm of petrol in them, dont know what yours should be I had 15mm in one and 25 in tother, the other thing was a sticking throttle body up inside the top of the dome on the carb, gave me the same probbs you are having worth checking before ya spend owt;)
