We currently use the Interphone F5 for our european tours but are considering swapping to a hard wired type as the battery doesnt last on the longer days.

Can anyone recommend a good make..need them to be easily fitted to HJC flip front lids.

Thanks

You will prib get every manufacturer listed in this thread !

In my opinion Sena works great as a Bluetooth, but you won't get any battery trouble or signal drops with a hard wired autocom

Autocom superpro automatic works well for me :thumb2

I have this on my bike for everything apart from bike to bike. Is it just a matter of putting a two way radio into the system or is there another option for linking to Bluetooth setups from other bikes

I've just fitted an Intaride 'Hawk' wired system, with a bluetooth module for the Satnav. Built in radio for bike to bike, and wired headsets.
Neither radio or intercom have been used on a ride yet, but just a test in the garage all seems very good. Plenty of volume, and clear speach. The rider has a PTT button on the bars for the radio, and the pillion has a PTT button built into the bike to helmet extension lead.
I've been a long term Autocom user, but have had bad experiences with the headset quality with plug problems, so with my very old system dying, I thought I'd have a change.
Using the radio alot for instructing steered me to The Hawk for the intergrated radio.

Scala G4 batteries have lasted all day, whenever I have used them over the last 5 years.

Used approx 100 days on european trips in that time, mostly on open-microphone - without battery problems.

If you were wanting to err on the safe side- just get a USB Battery pack and plug them in to that when you stop for lunch?

I think wired VHF radios are old-hat now............ the new Scala, Sena, Intaride solutions are the way forward. (The only caveat is, that up until the latest Sena came out - each maker, Scala, Sena, Intaride etc....... only paired with the same make. The latest Sena is supposed to be able to pair with Scalas, Intarides, etc)

Autocom SPA with a Kenwood radio for bike to bike. Fit and forget ... no charging, superb sound quality and it I ntegrates perfectly with my Zumo 590 for music, nav & phone.

Obvious question no.1:

Are you looking to do bike to bike?

Rider to pillion?

Rider to pillion AND bike to bike?

Obvious question no.2:

Do you REALLY need to talk to anyone at all whilst you ride along?

Everyone is different, and when we go on our hols, we switch to silence or music while on motorways, but on smaller roads in the countryside or the twisties in the Alps - we enjoy the open-comms of the Scalas - it's all part of the "social aspect" of our motorcycling.

+1 for Autocom

I tried moving to the modern hi tech world of Bluetooth this year. However, I found for my 2 up camping trips the Autocom can't be beaten so I have gone back to my SPA. It is always available, is crystal clear and there are no issues with battery life and recharging. You soon get used to the need to plug in/out when getting on/off the bike and it only takes seconds.

One Bluetooth quirk I didn't like on my set up was that when hooked up to a satnav it has total priority over the pillion link. The pillion can't hear the satnav and isn't aware you can no longer hear the pillion. This results in some very frustrating broken/interrupted conversations. With autocom, the pillion can also hear the satnav and knows the pillion/rider link has been reduced in volume. With some of the stranger instructions I hear from my Garmin (especially in France) it can be very useful to have 2 of us listening in and trying to work out what the instruction means.

Just a tip if your Kenwood radio packs up -Mine stopped working after about 10 yrs - no shame to it !
Sam at Chainspeed can supply a Chinese (Avofeng?) radio to which he added the tail with the autocom plug. You can get a battery eliminator for it but I have been using the AC charger & the charge seems to last all day. It works very well. The radio only cost in the Region of £20.00 without the eliminator, & Sam tuned it to the Kenwood settings. Very pleased with it. A cheap fix compared to purchasing another Kenwood.
