Which GPS is best in bright sunlight

I have a TomTom which is absoluty useless in bright sunshine in the car and on the bike - the screen just seems to disappear. I want to replace it with a GPS unit that I can actually see in anything other than night time driving.

So what is the best GPS for the summer?

Don't know if your TomTom has a screen that auto adjusts it's brightness, or if more recent Garmins have that feature. My StreetPilot 2720 does and it seems to work OK. Didn't have any problems across all scenarios on my recent 10 day French Alps tour. Sure it's not quite as readable at times but I can't recall not being able to read the display.

Of course the angle you have the thing mounted, in relation to the sky and your eye position, has a bearing as well. If you an mount it so the effective reflection (mine has an anti reflective coating anyway) in the screen is of your tank, tank bag or chest that should help.

I've tried all positions. The screen even appears to fade to grey in the car in bright light. I have the day time brilliance at the maximum setting and it can still get washed out.

Even trying to shade the screen hasn't helped.

I guess it must be contrast thing not just a brilliance thing.

So I am looking for a new GPS tha has the right amount of contrast & brilliance to give me a good view of the screen no matter what condition.

All the screens wash out. I have not found one yet that does not.
I use a Glarestomper and it works well on the Zumo 660.

I had a old Glarestomper laying around so I did a test and sewed 2 of them together. WOW it's like a movie theater. Works well, may look a little funny but I don't care as long as it works.

Thanks Azone. You've convinced be to at least try something else. I have order a Glarestomper (only a few pounds so worth a try).
