Quest and the Garmin gps v im a bit lost when it comes
down to these things.

all the wiring map cd and handle bar mount.

Go for a Quest and look around carefully....you should get 150 quid change from buying the unit AND a mount, and the GPS will do everything the average user wants and more :thumb

PS happy chrimbo to you too :D

Seconded

I've had a quest for a little while, attached via a Ram mount. It is now powered via a spare accessory socket and routed into the autocom thanks to one of 'Ram-mans' QPAC doobrees. The only criticism is the screen's quite small but that does not really cause a problem and the portability of it makes it a real contender.

Link to site here hopefully. Go on treat yourself, it's Christmas.

Even though I paid "full price" for my Quest earlier this year I don't regret buying it. The real beauty of it is the portability. I've used it on the bike, in the car, cycling and walking and for less than £200 now you simply can't get a better unit.

Cheers

Dick

Re: screen size. I think Fanum mentioned in another thread about turning off the data fields and enabling the pointer function (so you still get countdowns to turns). It works for me.

Or go to GPSW & get one of those magnifier thingys.

Where will you be riding? If you are thinking of anywhere in Europe you will have to rule out the Quest due it lack of memory. A 2610 will be more suited.

I wouldn't have thought so!! I have a 2610 with a 256mb card and haven't felt the need for anything larger. Though I have a 2610 I recon the quest is a better spec in many ways 10,000 pt track log 5 times bigger than the 2610. Can be used hand held because of the integral battery and is useful for Cycling/ walking as it has most transverse mercator grids built in so you can easily use it with paper maps if you are in an area with no digital coverage. Way way more versitile than a 2610!! :)

No worries Steve...............have a good Xmas break

I'll wait until new supplies arrive for a cradle..............I've managed 20 years to navigate without this new fangled GPS malarkey, so I'm sure a few more weeks won't hurt. It can sit in the box till then and anyway both my Dakar and 1150Adv are off the road and in the garage, so I'll practice in the car till Spring!!
