WHICH GROUND ANCHOR, CHAIN AND BIKE COVER?

Moving house at the end of October and the new gaff does not have a garage - how foolish of me.

The GS is going to be kept on the little forecourt in front of the house. I need -

- a concrete-in ground anchor
- a chain to foil the worst of Cardiff thieving scumbags (if such a device exists at all)
- a weather-proof bike cover.

Any suggestions appreciated.

House is one of these Edwardian era terraced jobbies, a cabinet would block out light to the front room, and they look a bit crap too. Its got to be a ground anchor etc.

Big bike book seem to be still running, from Yorkshire. They were the mail order division of Riossi/Carnell. I bought a padlock/chain from them. Oxford Monster. Includes a nice pouch that clips to the rear seat/rack.

There's a number of ground anchors too.

Cover: I got a large nylon cover from M&P. Nuvo brand, XL size fits the GS. Cost 20 quid. It has a couple of vents which help prevent it billowing in the wind. You'll need a couple of bungee cords to really secure it in fierce winds.

Monster lock/chain also available from hein Gericke for a tad under £100. Abus Granite are another good buy. A good anchor is one called ( I think) the Groundhog. Cement in type which you loop chain through. If you position that one correctly you can put a wall anchor on the front wall and secure the bike at two points?

Whatever bike cover you buy make sure it is breathable they cost more but are worth it as you dont get condensation sitting on the bike.

The one I recommended is not made of a breathable fabric but has vents at the highest point. These seem to do a good job of allowing moisture to evaporate - the are behind velcro flaps to prevent rain entering.

I've got an Oxford cover which is lined, breathable, elasticated at the bottom and has a retaining strap to go under the bike. It also has slots in it for the chain to go through or those theeving bastards will nick your cover.

I bought mine at the BMF rally for £40, whatever you get ensure its breathable, lined and heat proof so you don't mely it on the exhasut.

Oh and it won't be light or portable either

Ah yes well never had that problem as the cover lives on the bike and they both live in the garage

If it's a perimeter defence that you want these are easier and less expensive to source.

Sorted

Now have a ground anchor buried 2ft into concrete, an Oxford Monster lock, a breathable bike cover which can be locked to the bike.

All obtained via Andy at Hein Gericke Cardiff, excellent service from Gser Andy as ever.

With the BMW alarm and a disc lock that should now do the job, won't stop the scrotes having a go but such is life.
