Wife is quite small and has a 52cm head. The first helmet she got was a Shoei. Correct fitting, but was the same size shell as my 58cm..... Just with lots of extra padding to make it fit. It looked stupid on a small person and I'm sure it was heavy.

She is currently on an Arai XXS, which comes in a small shell, proportionate to the size of the wearer. My son is now wanting to be a pillion, but at 7, has a bigger head than mum.... So can't borrow her helmet. Today I tried the HJC youths helmet. They only go up to 51-52cm..... Nice small shell, but sadly I need a 54cm which is an XS in most brands.

So, other than the expensive Arai, does anyone know of a budget brand of helmet which does small shells? I don't fancy spending a fortune on a helmet and him not enjoy the bike.

Had the same problem looking for a small helmet for wife. Tried on lots ,but all looked stupid as all they had done to change the size was alter the lining .Ended up buying Arai, never looked back.

Check on www.louis.de their website shows 12 different lids in small shell sizes and may help you to find a make that is imprted into the UK possibly by GetGeared.

I went to a local supplier who had loads of different brands... Was hoping to see the Caberg Rhyno, kids flip front helmet. None in stock and an extra £13 to special order it.... They had no kids helmets in a 54 size, but kept pushing me to take a kids offroad lid for him:confused:

Anyway, rather than lose summer miles while my son's off school, I picked up an Arai Astro-R on fleabay... If the pics of the interior are to be believed, it should be one of the few that have genuinely been worn three times and worth the £100 it cost.

Oh, and thanks for the linky to the German seller in the post above. Some good stuff :thumb2

I took my 7 year old out today with his Arai Astro R eBay helmet. No signs at all that it's been previously worn, so I reckon it's worth the £100.

He did a "round the block" run 18 months ago, but today's his first proper run.
An hour and a bit of country road and gravel lanes and he was really upset when we got home. He can't wait till the next run.

The Arai is a quality helmet, but in XS its a tiny shell and definitely in proportion to the size of a 7 year old. On this occasion, eBay came up trumps!:D
