I have the Motorrad Concepts hugger fitted. Easy to fit, a rather appropriate matt finish rather than shiny (which IMHO doesn't suit the bike) and also good service - when the first one didn't fit it was replaced very quickly.

And still more....

touratech hugger

mmm, i'm gonna fit mine tonight but am a bit nervous after seeing this one. it's hard to believe that happened, it seems really sturdy.

What did you torque up the swingarm/shock bolt to, btw?

Cheers,

Patrick.

They don't make 'em any more, mate, and gave up on their Mark II design. Shows just how difficult it must be to design a satisfactory hugger for the 1200. :(

Hi Patrick

Dunno... one of the guys did that for me while I made the coffee.

Yup.. it seemed sturdy. I e-mailed Touratech on my return from Slovenia and there's more than just mine failed

The 'revamped' version was rushed out because of demand :nono

Those guys are a class act. I will look to them for accessories whenever I can. I have one of their huggers on my R12GS and really like it; it has held up for many miles and does a good job keeping the crap off the bike. I have no connection or inside info, but their product is worth waiting for, in my humble opinion.

Here is what they have on their web site (reproduced without permission):

Monday 24th July 2006-Motorrad Concepts Rear Hugger for BMW R1200GS

After just over 2 years of development & production Motorrad Concepts have recently taken the decision to discontinue production of our rear hugger for the BMW R1200GS. Development of the long awaited MkII version is also terminated forthwith.

Of possible interest to prospective customers is the fact that we are currently in negotiation with two European manufacturers who have expressed interest in taking over the project.

If all goes to plan our basic hugger design will be reincarnated by a manufacturer better able to deal with the production difficulties & quality control issues we previously experienced.

Don't expect any such product to be announced prior to Intermot this coming Autumn.

hugger

busters -accessories .co.uk do hugger for 1200 gs for £55 , don,t know if it is any good tho

... No sign of failure on the stock BMW carbon-fibre hugger after 10k miles. I had it fitted pre-delivery by NOG. It doesn't keep too much shite off the lower rear shock link, but definitely helps keeps the pants dry. Pricey but it's the real CF deal

... I've seen failures on ABS touratech and S&W Motrad types.

New, from our good friends at NippyNormans....... :nenau

Wunderlich

I have the Wunderlich carbon hugger fitted. Cost about £165 (ouch) but it was easy to fit (15 mins) and it does help prevent trench foot. Only thing I don't like is that you can hear it flapping about at low speed esp. if no ear plugs in. I'm sure it flaps about at motorway speeds too but you can't hear it and thankfully it hasn't fouled the tyre after 2000 miles of use

DON'T BOTHER, it's not for sale at all, bought one and had a load of ear ache from them, (see rants section) there customer service stinks, had to demand they removed my information from there list to stop them ringing me.
The one listed is by Earmax or Skidmarx, the only one they sell is Phyramid at £110, they say they listed the other before the manufacturer pulled the plug on production.

Don't say I did'nt worn you :nono , they are a bunch of :tosser 's

Had no problem with the same after also around 2k miles in France; but never heard it flapping around (Too much wind noise in the days before ear plugs might be a reason)- and as for whether it is shiny or not as mentioned before - no idea as its covered in dust! Never bought a machine, bike or car/landrover for its appearance but only for its practicality! Would try a few smilies but this is a Mac and d...ed if I can understand and I'm not willing to scoop to Gates con-trick!! (windows that is)

I too have the Ilmberger ( Wonderlick... ) carbon hugger & am well pleased...
"Seems" kinda fragile but as long as one doesn't cake it up with mud between wheel & guard it should be man enough for the jobbie.
Wet weather performance ? F*ck I don't know, still watching the weather forcasts.
