Hi guys, I am picking up my first GS on tuesday, 1150.

I need a new jacket, my main requirement is a jacket that will keep me warm and toasty as I get cold easily.

I have been looking at the bmw streetguard jacket which I like but the cost is putting me off, I feel that I could get a similar level of equiptment for half the price?

Anyone tried the street guard ? was it worth the cash?

or are there any alternatves that are just as good.

cheers guys:D

Jackets

I fancy a Tourguard myself,as they are externally waterproof, not sure how warm they are though-I've heard various conflicting reports:confused: not such a problem if you have a heated vest though:rolleyes:
Given that you live in Bridgend you could do a lot worse than check out Hein Gericke in Cardiff,Andy the shop manager is a fellow GSer,tell him what you're after he'll look after you, good luck ;)

Might be worth asking the BMW dealer what price they will do the jacket for. I've dealt with Prestige in London and Sawbridgeworth in Hertford in the last 8 months and they have knocked 15-20% off the retail price of jackets I have bought from them. With the Streetguard costing £425, 15% off that would bring it down to £360 ish. Always worth a try.

Another GS in Bridgend starting to get crowded. I've got a Richa jacket with a removable warm lining. It's waterproof and warm.

welcome

Streetguard/Tourguard

I have both these jackets and they're the Dog's B*llocks.

Try Ebay.........my Streetguard was Brand new and still had labels....unworn and cost me £71.33.

My Tourguard was FOC (well cost me £5 in raffle tickets @ GS'er Princetown 2004 w/end) from Park Lane (nice guys) as a part - alternative prize, to the Rally 2 suit donated by them as 1st prize in the Club Princtown raffle.

So 2 top class BMW jackets with a RRP of £935 ...........picked up for £76.33.

The jackets are so good I splashed out in Williams sale and bought the Streetguard Trousers for £255 (instead of normal RRP of £315)

Go one..........you know you want one !!!!!!!!

you may be able to get streetguard stuff cheap at the moment. MBW are bringing a new version out soon and old stock is being got rid of. Well at least it is at Vines.

When it is dry my Tourguard is not as warm as my old Rukka, but when it is wet the Rukka out layer gets soaked I get cold.

So I turn on the leccy vest thing.

Jackets

I use a hein gericke master iv jacket, all i can say is brilliant, and even better if you use the trousers as well, the storm coller on it stops the wet stuff getting down yer neck, and its very warm.

North Oxford have 25% off Streetguard at the moment and could probably offer more if its one they have in stock.

Cooper Reading (my old employer)have a grey Streetguard size 54 at half price. It was worn once by their CEO and is very slighty marked. I have been using a Streetguard myself for over 2 years and it is great. The only other brand that has the same level of quality (and Armourcor) is Rukka. My wife's 8 year old Rukka suit is still extreamly waterproof.

Hein Gericke Gore-Tex Voyager works for me. Waterproof, warm and with a detachable lining so you can wear it all year round. £200 last time I bought one. Current one is getting on for 3 years old and looks brand new.

I'm on my third Belstaff jacket just now. The first was just waist length and is worn out and tired looking. I hev an explorer which I use as my main jacket as it is waterproof and warm with a removeable " lounge jacket" which is a silver fleece. I have just bought the new Adventure jacket in hope of a warm summer.

Main point is that both INFINITY motorcycles (stores nationwide) and Alvins Moto-cal (Edinburgh) are doing half price on Belstaff.

Explorer £100 Adventure £75.

I haven't seen any other stores promoting this.

Belstaff cheap

Belstaff have sold up to an Italian company apparently !!
I just bought there adventure jacket for 75 quid , all there stuff is half price, i use an explorer all the time and there 'grid' pants. thoroughly reccommend there gear

Streetguard is excellent.......and as they last much longer than a cheaper jacket, they're not actually as expensive as you might think over a few years.

They do lack pockets though.

streetguard

Well I opted for the streetguard jacket it was discounted cos of the new streetguard 2 which is coming out soon.

Excellent fit and feels light but keeps keeps me cosy and warm, I may have to get the trousers too cos I am wearing leathers at the moment and my knees get cold after a while.

The streetguard is excellent in the rain I went out when it was pouring down and stayed bone dry and warm.

I would reccomend this jacket as it is expensive but I hope it will provide many years of use so its a big thumbs up!:D

Thanks for the advise guys
