Hi. I had a look at two 1200 Adv. yesterday. First one was 3 years old and looked like it had been used! Second one twice the age but less miles 20k vs 30k and spotless ( OK some "furring" on bolt heads but nothing a couple of hours fettling wouldn't sort).

Both had full luggage and BMWSH the main difference was; newer model was a 90yr anniversary with a few more "bits". Alloy covers to brake and clutch reservoirs, mudslinger, gps mount.

Both are same price! ( more than I'd wanted, but isn't it always) The mileage on either doesn't bother me.

My quandary is should I go with the older one ( head and heart say buy on condition). As I would've liked the newer one and could try and tidy it up. Things I noticed were luggage was almost white with corrosion. Bits that were supposed to be shiney weren't Fasteners and main stand were rusty and it gave the overall impression of not having been loved ( which is fine as it's just an inanimate object :augie. ). But if it looks like this after three years will it become a chore ( or worse expensive) to get it to the level of something that looks fresh(er). I also understand if this newer one was fresher then there would also be a bit more on the ticket.

I guess I've answered my own question but have I missed anything by buying an older bike against a newer one ? Is there other questions I should ask the dealer. Or do I just let the wife know I've spent next four years holiday money and buy a bed for the shed.

Have you seen the 90th anniversary GSA for sale on here?

If I were keeping a bike for a long time I would go for condition over trying to clean up a neglected bike.
Was the older bike you mentioned a twincam as well?

Neither bike was advertised on these pages ( unfortunately) and the 10 plate is the twin cam ( I believe) sales guy said both bikes were identical ( apart from the differences ). I'm with you that I tend to keep my bikes a long time and favour condition But just needed to see if there was something glaring I'd missed as I'm unfamiliar with gs /BMW ownership.

Have a look at the bike for sale on this site then,12k miles and looks v clean.
Plenty of clean bikes about without buying work.

Can I ask

What's your budget ?

I'm in the early stages of thinking of selling mine

2013 ..63 plate ... Triple black

My budgets been blown. Only because the dealer will take a p ex on my Other bike and offer a 2 year warranty.

I presume both of these bikes have a warranty if same dealer is selling so if anything goes wrong your covered. Go for the one you prefer. The only thing I would say is that in a few years time the newer bike may be worth more (providing your tart it up) but you may spend the difference tarting it up.

Ride them both and go with your heart (even though it is an inanimate object!)

Completely agree

The Anniversary holds its price really well, I saw one in Cotswold BMW for £11,495! But it was like new. At the right price you could sort the cosmetics.
