Just had a test ride on the new WC model. Got to say its night and day compared to my GSA. The model I rode was a TE model, but I can't really justify the TE price tag so I have live without LED hightlight etc....Think the enduro model could be the one to go for. Is the TE model really worth the almost £1400 over the enduro model....

If you bought a TE you would say yes but if you bought the Enduro you would say no..... you pay's your money...

I'm seriously considering getting one in March, but the TE is poor VFM for me.

I rarely ride in the dark, so the LED headlight is a waste of money, and don't need the GPS mount

Standard GS £11650 + ESA £740 + heated grips £230 = £12620

TE = £14080 :eek:

Think I'll save the £1460 as it'll pay for the luggage with change to spare...

Yes but the LED light is trick and looks good. If you decide to sell the bike the LED light will be the most desirable, another option is to purchase an ex demo TE, 3 months old, with top box, and akro can for £12,500

Agreed

The LED is an expensive gimmick

3-4 years ago I paid £5,000 for a 1340 EVO Electra Glide.... I could sell it today for £5,000 maybe even a little more... maybe £5,500 or £5,600... The VIN and V5 would sell to a custom builder for £2,000 to get round SVA regs and Insurance issues..I could get my money back breaking it if I choose to.....

If you are concerned about depreciation, do not buy any new bike .. Simples....

More recently I was lucky enough to be given a budget by the wife ( Christmas Pressie ) to buy another GS my budget would get an early 1200 GSA or a clean, late 1150 GSA... I went for a 12 cos I wanted to, even though the 1150 will probably hold it's value better....

That's the spec I went for - nothing extra on the TE that I wanted ;)

Bear in mind that you will need to order in advance as all "Basic" models are special builds whilst BMW UK import loads of TE's on spec.

3 things to consider re TE model..

1, it's not all about you riding at night, led daytime 'prescence' is improved to oncoming traffic

2, Residuals, I wouldn't buy a used one without the led headlamp, I'm sure deep down others will be the same, including the BMW salesman.

3, the new navigator 5 fits straight onto the lockable factory fitted mount, which is prewired to the bike to show LOTS of info.. The resolution & speed of refreshing has got to be the best I've EVER seen on a sat nav.

Just my humble opinion, but having just bought one I'm glad I got the te now.. (but I did hate paying the extra £££ at the time)

It will also come down to how reliable the new LED headlight is over a number of years - will be very expensive to replace once out of warranty and so it is a bit of an unknown quantity so far.

That said not heard any examples of any being replaced under warranty yet - so fingers crossed ;)

Current thinking if i get one (have a deposit down for a gsa but may switch) is it will be a basic bike with heated grips and nav mount. The engine modes arent needed imho. If i pay for a fancy headlight , cruise control, i am just buying them for the second owner as i wont use them. I suppose if i was minted i might tick every box but 12k upwards is already getting a bit salty for something that sits in the garage most days of the year. Thats how i see it anyhow.

If you intend to buy on BMW's PCP finance then you might be surprised by the figures, as a base model with cruise, heated grips and ESA was higher per month than the TE as the residual is calculated on the base figure and the extras just add to the monthly payment.

That's a good point. The other point SWMBO made was that TE's are sitting on the showroom floor, so there's a deal to be made (especially at this time of year), whereas there's probably no deal to be made on a specially ordered bike :nenau

I paid the extra for the TE just for the LED headlamp, it looks cool.......................lol

Buy what you like/want I did and stop going on about what other people do we are all different and buy the bikes we do for different reasons, isn't life great!

Still got a deal on my special order "Basic" :D

I am also lucky enough not to have to use finance or PCP for bike purchases ;)
