Which networks support iPhone personal hotspot?

I did my research on this about 4 months back, so not sure it's totally current, but for what it's worth hear it is.
Only 3 and everything everywhere and a particular flavour of Vodafone ( I'll get the name and post back later ) allow tethering out of the box on an all you can eat basis. All the others will allow tethering, but you have to pay an extra charge for the data. Cost depends on how much used. We took the view that we would prefer the one up front payment per month and not worry.
I know that up to 8 weeks ago you couldn't tether to a 3 pay as you go sim, as son number 2 visiting from Australia couldn't find a cost effective way of doing it.
As an alternative you might consider an unlocked Mifi unit available on eBay. You can buy prepaid data sims online, and this alternative has the advantage of allowing up to 5 units to tether to it. The iPhone tethering only allows 1. IMHO it also has a better 3G antenna so we have had a signal on the Mifi when the phones didn't have one. Also as its opened you could carry a selection of prepaid data sims with you so increasing your ability to connect. You can also buy foreign based data only sims which enable browsing in foreign countries paying at local data rates. Use the apps Viber or what's app, and you have über cheap phone calls from most places. Our setup has worked all over Europe and I'm pretty sure it will work in the states. The Maldives also presented no difficulties. We did have problems in Australia as they use a different frequency for the 3G, so we bought an Australian Mifi and off we went. Good luck:thumb2

Talkmobile is the name of the other network I mentioned. I'm pretty sure it's piggy backed on Vodafone.

Strange, just yesterday my iPhone 4 was connected to 3 different units, even showing the number of connections next where it says Personal Hotspot....:nenau

Interesting! Will recheck ours. We tried it when we first went on line, and it threw one or other of us off. Looks like it may have changed. Thanks. :thumb2

When I upgraded to a 4s on orange last year was told tethering included only cost would be data if I went over my limit. Used it when on holiday with a good 3G signal worked really well.

i was on o2 for as long as i can remember but have moved to somewhere where o2 is no good so now am on TMOBILE

everyone tells you that tethering is not possible (in the shops when you are trying to buy etc) but it turns out that tethering is possible once you have unlocked your phone.
I found out that T Mobile only say you cant tether because it is slightly unreliable. and that is is the ONLY reason they dont promote it. Not worth dealign with the complaints they said.

I ran my business for two weeks by tethering my ipad to my i phone 4 on my full monty t mobile pay a month at a time deal. Personal hotspot was superb. Could even watch movies on the pad tethering to 3G on the phone

Cant fault it.

Best thing i ever did.

Tethering on Three is free only if you have the One Plan

Tethering on your phone.
Tethering is when you connect your phone to other devices to use it as a modem so they can access the internet

If you're on The One Plan you can use the internet when you're out and about with other devices including laptops, tablets and games consoles, just by connecting them through Wi-Fi or USB to your phone. You can tether on all our One Plan tariffs including our one month rolling SIM plan.

If you’re on one of our Pay Monthly plans, including the Essential Internet and Ultimate Internet Plans and want to tether, you’ll need to buy an Add-on. You’ll then get a tethering allowance. You can only use this allowance in the UK

To find out what Add-ons you can get on your plan, and to buy an Add-on, visit your My3 account on your computer, or open My3 on your phone and select Buy Add-ons. Unfortunately some of our older plans aren't compatible with tethering Add-ons.

Our Pay As You Go plans don't allow tethering. See our Pay As You Go terms and conditions for more information.

If you're having problems accessing the internet on your phone after you've seen a warning message about tethering you just need to turn your phone off and back on again. You’ll need to buy an Add-on if you want to keep tethering.

If you're looking for an internet connection, our Mobile Broadband offers great value for using the internet on devices like tablets and laptops.

I have Three, iPhone Sim only, All You Can Eat Data and it would be extra if I wanted tethering added.
