Apart from the obvious of course! ;)

I'm getting a s/h R1200GSA on Saturday :bounce1 (assuming the cheque clears). The bike comes with the standard BMW pannier mounts but no panniers so I was thinking that seeing as Touratech make the BMW panniers, maybe some other TT panniers would fit?

Has anybody tried this?

Regards,
Richard

No, the Touratech panniers definately wont fit the BMW pannier mounting frame that comes with the R1200GSA.

The Touratech panniers come with a mating mechanism that involves gettign inside the panniers to turn a knob to tighten them against the pannier frame.

The BMW panniers just slide on, and then are secured in place with a lever which is then locker.

Both mounting mechanisms are sound and strong, but the Touratech is fiddly and awkward as you need to get your hand in the panniers to secure them which means taking stuff out. IMHO, the BMW mounting mechanism is better thought out and is more a quality engineering solution in terms of fitting methods.

However, the BMW panniers have brittle plastic on the corners of the main box an the lids, which render them fragile. If the plastic corner of the pannier lid gets damaged, thats the waterproofing gone, and I speak from experience there.

I have the BMW panniers and regret getting them. Wish I'd gone for Metal Mule or Touratech.

Windy,

Thanks for the info. I'm not keen on the BMW ones, I saw another S/H GSA and one of the panniers appeared to have a leak!

Looks like there will be a pannier mounting frame in the for sales section soon then.

Thanks,
Richard

Not 100% certain but I believe someone else posted thet the BMW pannier frames are the same as the TT except for the locking tabs. If you cut them off the TT panniers are suppose to fit.

I'd try a fit out first before getting out the cutoff wheel.
