Hi knowlegeable people

My PC is on its last legs - but then it is over 10 years old and has had all the memory I can stuff into it upgraded.

So I'm after something new, and frankly don't know where to start.

I basically need something I can use to surf t'internet (and I guess a router too? though I still think of them as a carpentry tool ...). I will store and sort a few photos on it, but not do any major image processing, nor any games.

What can you recommend for me?

Cheers aye!

Simon

Apple

hi mate

i'd recommend getting a Mac, they just work and dont crash or do weird things like PC's do.

the iMac range is great value for money.

i just bought my mum one earlier this year, she has never had a puter before and founds it easy and intuitive to use.

10 years of hassle free use!

Get a Laptop.. Acer are good value (Apples are nice and pretty, but expensive for what you're getting)
You can then surf the interweb on the toilet or in the back garden if it pleases you.

Your internet provider will most likely give you a free wireless router if you sign up with them, so don't bother buying one.

As much as I hate Windows Vista, it's good for anyone who's not really into computer (trying not to sound patronising here;) )... Windows XP is faster if you know where to go and how to do stuff.
Vista makes it easier and more foolproof..

Saved me a job! :D

But in Cookie's (and my) case its at least done from the perspective of an actual user of Apple's and not neanderthal if it ain't Windaz it ain't shite :D

As has been said elsewhere Mac's are nice but you could get 3 Vostro 1500 laptops from Dell for the price of one Macbook and it doesn't sound like your needs are at all ambitious.

just remember if it has to be Vista make sure its not Basic and it has AT LEAST 2GB of memory.

Saved me a job! :D

i really like macs (got 2), but that just works/not crashing thing is just not the case IME.

if they weren't such stupid money, i'd recommend them to anyone, but they are, so you really have to want one IMO.

Just bought a off Mesh. Got lots on Ram 4 GB with their latest offer....:):beerjug:

Nice one Andy, thanks all for advice. Off to Dell with my Visa card then ...

Heres a fantastic deal on a Dell Vostro 200 for £162 without monitor.....absolute bargain. Monitors are so cheap nowadays.

This is the main HDUK site but just look for the deal on the Dell Vostro 200. I bought one a few months ago and it is superb, very fast and silent in operation in fact its the quietest PC I have ever seen (or heard;)).

Good luck
