I have got a Autocom Pro AVI installed along with the Zumo 550 and the Autocom BT dongle controlling my phone, and all is rosey.

I would like to expand for bike 2 bike using PMR and have a mate who has got some Midland G7 units that he thinks might be worth trying out.

My fear is that I don't read good things about those on here and I would like to get something a little more 'top notch'.

Can I ask any of you seasoned bike comms people, which is the best PMR set-up to go for, should I have an external antenna, and should I have a PTT switch do you think?

I would rather not have to wear the PMR and would rather it attached to bike really, if possible that is.

Thanks.

Don't forget that if he's got a radio with a range of 1 mile and you've got a radio with a range of 4 miles, you might be unable to hear him while he will be able to hear you.

Which PMR to go for.

Thanks for the input.

For good or for bad I have ordered the 803, but have any of you experience of whether to go PTT or just stick with VOX?

Cheers.

Push to talk every time. No messing with VOX settings, false triggers etc. Vox will work but everything you say will be transmitted and could be used against you later, ohh and folks don't have to listen to you as you sing along to your music :D

got the 803, they do leads to plumb these straight into your autocom, really like mine as it has an FM radio as well and reception ain't to shabby :thumb2

Ned, can you have the FM Radio playing at the same time as you are receiving/transmitting on the PMR?

Also, does the FM Radio use the PMR antenna?

Cheers,

Mike

Mine is connected to an Intaride Evo intercom(:thumb2), if your riding and transmit to another bike the radio cuts out then back in again, if I have the radio on and talk over the intercom to a passenger the radio doesn't mute but speech volume is clearly audible (it only mutes when your transmitting/receiving. I also have the PTT button I can select as permanent send for instruction purposes. The radio has a really good vox sensitivity as well. It does use the antenna as it's aerial but this can be removed and fitted with a larger one if you feel the need, also the radio is programmable if you have a licence touse private freq and increase the output:thumb2

if you are running one of our Super Pro's and you have got the money run a Kenwood TK3201, it can be bike powered of your system so no need to worry about battery life, if will work as fast as your bike will go and also supply you a good range between your bikes.

But dont knock the Midland G7's they are far far better than the Motorola's we stocked for the price
