Picked the bike up on Saturday. 200 miles down and so far so good.

Radiators do look rather exposed and not even a plastic protector!

A quick trawl of that there interweb reveals SW Motech, Touratech, R&G (in stainless and ali) plus some "brands" I'm not familiar with.

I'm thinking stainless would provide more protection and any weight penalty would be trivial - but I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise...

I went with Touratech, as they are the most comprehensive, IMO, and as they work very closely with BMW, should have a good warranty.:thumb

Hey chaps. Noob here who's looking to order a bike this week.

What's with the radiator guards having flaps these days? Does it really serve a purpose?

I think I'll order the ones that mean I don't need to dismantle the new bike to fit them. Are there any that say "Just add cable ties"? :)

The ones from Cymark are easy to fit. Remove 3 torx screws to remove plastic surround, protector slots onto the surround, and then replace. Simplz

it maximises the airflow through the rads whilst still giving protection:rob

as for fitting a rad guard with cable ties...dont be such a bloody heathen :D:D:D

when I wash the bike

I wouldn't do that - the whole bike is likely to either dissolve or collapse into a pile of rust.

Especially if you believe what the naysayers and general miserable gits would suggest about the bike. ;)

Admired a grey water cooled 1200 during an IAM slow riding course this weekend, noticed it has a pair of Mark Hootons rad guards on it. Closer inspection showed a loose stone chipping loitering against the stone guard which I removed. The owner will never know how lucky he is to have fitted those rad guards.

Not in the market to replace my 08 GSA but If I was, the first farkle I would buy is a set of rad guards.

I made my own rad guards from steel mesh and painted them. After 2000 miles there are several chips in the paint. Either, there are some very hard flys about or, stones do find their way in to the rads..
