I am considering a Remus end can, but which one. Is the titanium one worth £50 more than the alloy? Whats the difference (besides colour)?

Cheers

Just looked in the Tourtech catalogue expecting to see the Tit. to be lighter, but it aint. So that would be less damage if you drop it then sir. Titanium is stronger than steel. Plus it probably won't scratch as easily.

From what I've read on this site, perhaps if you haven't already, buy the y-piece as the first option. Save more weight, I think it breathes freeer. How many 'e's in FREEEEEEEEER?

If you have the y-piece & an aftermarket silencer it can be too loud?

Come on guys, tell me I'm wrong. But I think I'm right, but loud is a personal thing.

I have been looking around at prices for Remus, and James Sherlock has just lowered the prices, so a Titanium revolution can for the 1150 is selling for £220 :D If you phone Nippy Normans he will probably match it (He did for my "Y" piece the other day, top bloke!)

Possibly should have been clearer, looking at a Remus for a 1200. I have an 1150 with a Y piece and alloy can which I bought off this site about 12 months ago...just trying to find out which is best/value, titanium or alloy? The principle applies to both the 1150 and 1200.

Thanks for the replies

Had the Remus Y piece but the centrestand support was not strong enough to deal with riding off (loaded Up). Moaned to supplier but Remus didnt seem bothered. Got my dough back and bought one from Scorpion. Got their end can as well. They were most helpfull and the exhaust seems to be made of better quality steel. Adios!

Just in the process of ordering a Y piece from James Sherlock ... the VAT deduction makes up for the shipping to Hong Kong!

In the past I found that a Titanium can (fitted to a CBR1100XX) was much cooler to the touch than a steel or alloy can after hard riding ... maybe useful if using panniers (throwover type?). Plus a titanium can is [USUALLY] lighter ...

Titanium cans spark like buggery if you throw the bike down the road ... ... but that's NOT a good reason to get one ...

Ugh.......

It makes me cringe to see peeps even sitting on a bike on a stand!

Maybe it's just the way I was brought up but stands were for supporting the bike by itself and certainly not for riding off on. I'm not surprised the Remus couldn't cope.

If the bikes loaded up I take it off the main stand and put it on the sidestand before getting on.

Is it just my motorcycle upbringing that baulks at this abuse?

You are not alone, it makes me cringe as well. I wonder if this could be the cause of centre stand failure, or a major contributor. using the machine in this manner was definately frowned on when I worked on police bikes.

If you rock backwards after spinning the back wheel on a "stand take off" your front wheel comes off the ground and crashes back down with a right old thump!

Back to the original question......I managed to get a cheap remus alloy for the 12 and its a great pipe, but in this weather needs polishing every week to keep it looking good. As soon as you get a bit of water / salt on the can it goes a matt colour. I'd spend the money and get the titanium. I'll probably swap mine out for a titanium in due course.

For me the obvious benefit of titanium is its inert nature. Can't/won't corrode in normal use whereas aluminium will (can be from the inside out as well before you obsessive cleaners slate me).

It is also more forgiving than aluminium in the vibration/knock resistance department, being more similar to the properties of steel but with the weight of aluminium. Viz more strength for the same weight or less weight for the same strength.
