Once my 1150 is back in one piece it will be time for new tyres. Being old and decepid I don't go off road at all and have been using road tyres for the last 6 years. Bridgestone BT21 rear, BT 20 front. This is the same combination I used on my previous bike (Honda VFR) more than 10 years ago. I suspect tyres have moved on a bit so anyone got experience of more modern rubber on an 1150?
Almost all my mileage is on twisty Alpine roads, mostly in the dry but we do get rain occasionally. Brisk rather than fast but I do use all of the rear tyre I get 4000 miles out of the rear a little more from the front.

All suggestions welcome-even from the usual comedians!

Try some Michelin pilot road 3s.
Great in both wet & dry and dual compound so wear really well. Lovely progressive turn in and stable at speed too.

Sent from my tablet with spelling and grammar as if I'm on them.

Just fitted a pair of BT023s. Superb - stable, confident, neutral handling. Noticeably better than BT020/021 they replaced, which were v. good anyway. :thumb2

Michelin Anakee 3?

Just finished fitting a set of Michelin's new Anakee 3. Not tried them yet, but hope to get out today for a while.
These Anakee's are nothing like the previous Anakee 2, which were similar to a Tourance.
These look almost like a road tyre - like Pilot Road 3 - but, according to Michelin the grooves are designed to clear of mud/gravel etc if you venture offroad! - I'm not convinced.
The carcase, however, is much stiffer - more like a Bridgestone carcase. Wear rates also meant to be better?

I'll see if I'm impressed later! - and off to Germany next Friday so that should be a decent run:thumb

Just paid £216 for a pair of PR3 fitted to bike - not loose wheels. Well they will be fitted in a month or two once the snow goes. Keeping my Tourances on until then.

Stick a set of TKCs on and stop trying to make a gs a road bike:blast

Just had a great ride back from llangolly above the speed limit with bars flappin, great fun:thumb2

Much cheaper than a toilet lc yet much the same riding experience!

Thanks, but it's my bike and it is a road bike!

Have you tried tourances:nenau

I've ridden all sorts of bikes on all sorts of tyres and tourances give as good feedback and cornering abilities as any tyre I've ridden. They are smooth on road, confidence inspiring in heavy rain and have good wear rates.

I'm sure a super sticky sport tyre would give more grip, but you'll change the rear every 1500 miles.

Big shout for Tourances. Toured everywhere on them and even a few laps of the Ring and never a problem. Ill always use them for as long as they make them :beerjug:

Another Vote

Not interested in super sticky sports tyres, and I'm not sure anyone makes them in GS sizes anyway. A modern sports touring tyre should fit the bill, and that's what I was asking about. And yes I have had a set of Tourances, I guess it comes down to personal preferences but I prefer my current tyres to the Tourances. Now looking for something better .Thanks anyway.

If you are happy with the current tyres then try the latest version of it. There are very few bad tyres out there, most of tyre preference is personal and in ya head. I hooned around at 100+ speeds on a gpz900 with me33, me99 and someone managed a 116mph lap of the isle of man on em, that was 20+ years ago.

The only crap tyre I ever had was a deathwing bridgestone, and even that was ok in the dry.

A new tyre is better than a shagged old one, so you're sure to like whatever you get:thumb2

Have a set of Mitas E08 on my 1150 they're bit like Tourances but seem to be lasting better, less noisy, handle as well if not better and cheaper. But not what you're after I imagine?

METZELER Z6 or PIRELLI DIABLO ROAD. You will never wear them out and they dont flatten in the middle either. I think they have a lot in common, is METZELER part of PIRELLI now?

Quite fancy a pair of the new Tourance Next as fitted to the new toilet bike. Bit too scared to ask them how the tyres perform cause i'm not in the club. :D

Tourance exp:nenau

Will handle differently on an 1150 than on a toilet, so you're answer is a moot point. Sure they'll be better than they need to be:thumb
