I've heard a few scare stories about the 05-09 bikes and that the 2010+ twin cams are the way to go.

If I can find one for £5k-ish then I'll go for it, but there's a lot of pre-2010 RTs out there...

I've had 2 05-09 RTs in the past with no problems... how prevalent are their supposed issues?

Or am I worrying over nothing?

I've had two, 05 and 09. 05 was a better finish (09 had a lot of paint lifting). Both were mechanically fine. At that age/money I would buy on condition/history.

I would second that. If you go for an earlier hex bike, ask if/when the rear drive was changed and what work has been done on it. It was the main expensive weak point of those and they seemed to have an appetite to keep lunching their shafts every 30k miles or so. I know at least 3 bikes on my biker mates circle with problems. And many more without of course. Looks like the TC models onwards were much better across the range.

I would personally buy the best condition TC example I could, ignoring mileage totally.

Here s one that looks fairly wonderful from a massively cheap (and very large) dealer

I just found a great bike on Auto Trader:

Sry.... cant upload the link.

Superbike factory, 10 reg, light blue bike, 25k miles for £5.3k

Are these guys the old BVM shop? I once bought a K12 brick from them. Good guys.

Two of the old BVM staff. Two other former staff members took on the trials side of the business, & are in Nailsworth, nearby.
