Which seat ?

I know there are many and varied answers to this question but I would appreciatte some constructive viewpoints.

Corbin or Sargent and why ?

I havent tried either on my GS1150 and the pillion comfort is as important as the riders.

Corbin

The Corbin is an all day ride seat, best buy I ever made for the 1150.
The pillion is separate and I don't have it, so I can comment on pillion comfort.

Unless your arse, coccyx, spine, arm length, leg length and riding style happens to be EXACTLY the same as someone else's, the question won't get you any meaningful answers.....it will just show you what other people have found that works for THEM.

Personally, I'd save a packet and get Tony Archer or someone of his ilk and quality of work to re-design my seat FOR ME, rather than risking hundreds 'on the offchance'.

The prime cause of seat discomfort, by the way, is probably little to do with the seat itself and a lot more about overall ergonomics.....a simple (and cheap) raising of the handlebars tilts your spine and coccyx/pelvis a few degrees, which can make a huge difference in comfort.

The two piece Corbin not only has 2 height positions but gives a few options of exactly where to sit

I used to ride with standard seat and airhawk pad.

Switched to a sergeant which I used for about a year mostly without an airhawk pad. But I couldn't get on with it sitting me lower than a standard seat.

I now have a wunderlich which is absolutely marvellous. No need for airhawk pad and I've spent lots of continuos hours on it with no discomfort. It sits me at the same height as the standard and is cheaper and in my opinion better made than the sergeant. Takes a while to get used to as it is firm. But it has the concave seat pattern to spread the load to reduce pressure points.

Mine cost me £300 from Rainbow BMW.

Can't speak for pillion, as I don't ride with one.

I have both - Corbin and Sargent

Previously I have been a Corbin man on the 1150 set up, the Rider's seat is very comfy with plenty of room to move about

Hover both seats are flippin' heavy and weigh maybe 10-12kgs as a pair

Not only are they heavy, they make the weight carried high up on the bike - which accentuates their weight

Also they are a poor fit to the subframe, making for having to tape up the subframe against paint wear and also some topboxes won't fit (without mods) with the Corbin pillion seat

I am now using the Sargent riders seat, which you can also use with the BMW 1150 pillion seat, Corbin won't permit this

The fit and finish of the Sargent is excellent and it weighs less, much less than the Corbin

Comfort is adequate, much better than a BMW seat & enough for a couple of hours or more & maybe 200 miles plus

I had real pain issues with my coccyx on my 1100. I ended up buying a used Corbin riders seat for the same money as a re-worked seat by Tony Archer. I thought I would be able to recoup my money if it didn't suit me where as I would be stuck with a modified original seat if it didn't work. As it happens it's the most comfy seat I have ever had on a bike. Haven't bothered with a pillion seat. Save some money, buy what you want second hand (either on here or eBay) and if it doesn't work for you sell it on. As others have said look at bar risers/ peg lowers etc as well. Good luck

Cheers guys, I take on board everybodies seat preference may not be for me as everybody is different, and thanks for the comment about the weight, I hadnt even thought about that one !!
It sounds as though a chat with Mr Archer might be in order and hopefully that will get me a custom seat(s) to suit our needs.
