I am experimenting with lowering my 97 1100 a bit. I don't want to muck around with the Wilbers units just yet so I bought a pair of shorter Hyperpro springs to use with my little used standard shocks.

Unfortunately my fancy Lazer spring compressor won't work with the rear shock as you have to compress the spring from the adjuster end to get the circlip out.

Would a pair of the type that have claws to grip the spring on both sides work - the spring is not much bigger in inside diameter than the damper so it might be tricky for the claws to grip the spring safely. What did you use to do the job? I know a specialist could do this for me, but I don't want to spend more than the minimum to do the job as an experiment.

Ratchet straps.......never tried, but might work, or you might remove a finger or eye :D
