I have a Zumo 550 and currently plan routes with Basecamp on my iMac and then transfer them to the Zumo.

I am looking to buy a tablet/ipad type device.

Which ones will I be able to use to plan routes then connect to my Zumo and transfer over.

Am I stuck with a Windows OS or will another OS run Basecamp.

Sorry, didn't know whether to post this here or in the Computer section.

I've recently been through the process. I've ended up with a Samsung Tab 2, 10.1, android 4.0.3 (ice cream sandwich ???). I'm running a mapping app from Bestbikingroads.com (£2.39) I think this uses Google maps onto which you can place waypoints. One you have mapped a route, it is "submitted" and uploaded back to the Bestbikingroads website. From there you can then see a gpx'd version (suitable for Garmin) of your route - this can then be downloaded back to the tablet (sounds a bit convoluted but it works OK)

The next step is to transfer the gpx file from the tablet to the Zumo, had a few problems at this point (USB'ing didn't work) but without boring you with the details, I copy and paste the file from the Samsungs (internal) microSD "Downloads" folder to the Samsungs external microSD card (NOTE:- gpx files should be copied to "exSD > Garmin > GPX so you'll have to create this file structure in the Samsung), then simply remove from microSD card from Samsung, mount the card into a microSD card adapter, put that in the Zumo then switch the Zumo on. Straight away it sees the new data - you can then import the route in the normal way.

I bought the Samsung, apart from other things, for the expandable memory, the USB port and the microSD facility. It works for me but your own research may turn up something more what you're looking for. Good luck

Pete.
