Givi parts backup very good as well

fitting plate reasonably easy to fit

I agree with a lot of the posts - I hate top boxes until I have to actually use the bike rather than riding it:cool:

Givi V46 Monokey

My first post...

Just bought a 1200GS and was wanting to get a decent sized topbox. BMW too small and too expensive.

After reading this thread I bought a Givi V46 Monokey and SR689 rack from grasemx on eBay (from Italy). £109 for the topbox, £45 for the rack and £18 for shipping. Great value and much better service than my local Givi retailer whose had nothing in stock to look at and just said "choose what you want on the web and we'll get it in for you".

Fitted easily and IMHO looks great!

I'm not enamoured of them.

But I use it for spare hi-viz for students, place to store lid, place to keep the documentation I need ..... oh, and I have my radio mounted vertically to the front face of the box, with my MP3 player alongside it, all connected by neat little plugs. I was able to drill just-large-enough holes and seal them with hot glue from a glue gun.

I also had to modify my Givi hi-level brake light kit.

Nicely made bit of gear that fitted well, but the quality of the connections is shocking. The spring-loaded 'buttons' have a poor surface, and seem to soon stop being springy, notwithstanding liberal dousing with WD40. So, I made a simple alteration and use a waterproof connector that doesn't seem to fail. Total cost £1:40 at Maplin.

I use this for my commute to work. Takes a laptop easily with room to spare for all your work crap.

I had 3 Givi boxes on the Tiger that preceeded the GS1200. They were waterproof, robust and much lighter than BMWs' over-complex luggage. sooner or later I plan to rteplace the tiny BMW top box with a Givi, if only to be able to secure two helmets (Mrs Bear is normally on the pillion when I go somewhere). Onle benefit of BMW luggage is that the same key fits everything.

Looking at purchasing the Givi V46 Top Box and have come across a 'CAUTION' issued by Givi regarding the fitting solutions associated with Givi luggage (or possibly any luggage ?)

http://www.givi.co.uk/documents.asp?CO_ID=9453

What has been the problem for them to issue this caution - which countries are they referring to ?

Anybody got any further information ?

should think one of the main countries they are referring to is Germany. Where all item must be TUV approved to pass mot's and stuff. TUV requires that the item and fittings have no edges with less than a 3mm radius AFAIK. meaning some of the base plates would fail
