Hi Folks,

Any pointers on what range is good to have and experince of torque wrench to buy for use on the beemer??

Was looking at the Norbar model 60 whats the thoughts??

Cheers
Mark

I use two the first goes from 8nm to 30nm and the second one goes from 25nm to 120nm. Buy the best you can afford and never leave them set above the minimum setting as it weakens the spring.

As post 2, as far as different makes, I like the Halfords professional range. 3/8" drive with a range from 20nm to 80nm (I think):thumb2

Another recommend for Norbar from me. Also Facom, Britool and Snap-On are quality.

Tightest general bolts on a GS during routine servicing are the rear wheel bolts at 60Nm so a half-inch square drive wrench should cope with that. Other bolts like head bolts are moderately torqued first and then angle-tightened in stages. A smaller three-eighths square drive wrench is good for brake caliper bolts etc.

As Ozzie says, always unwind after use/before stowing.

The vast majority of 3/8" drive torque wrenches will easily cover the routine servicing requirements (although many of them won't have a low enough setting for some of the smaller fasteners). But you'll maybe need to consider a 1/2" drive wrench if you anticipate doing anything more - a few fasteners are tightened to 110 or 140 Nm.

A small one for small jobs is more likely to be used than a larger one that's clunky to use. Larger jobs generally "have to" be torqued so the bigger wrench isnt an issue. So get two. Something small and light and something more butch that overlaps the top range of the small one.
