Which trailie should I be looking for

I am thinking of selling my Dommie, Now that its initial niggles have been sorted I always have in the back of my mind that it's a bit underpowered. I also don't go off road here due to my own personnel environmental convictions, but do ride it on the local tracks.

So which bike should I be looking for...

+/- 2000 quid and must be over 60BHP

Triumph
Any others

Africa twin, nice bikes, but I don't reckon I could get one on my budget... A varadeeero would be cheaper and faster and I could go for one...

Had a GS, best bike I ever owned, again I don't think I could get a decent one for the money. It would have to be a 1998 or younger version, 1100 defo. But not earlier than 1998...

As for the riding, all west cork, bumpy roads lots of bends bad surfaces. The Dommie is actually fine, but I'm redlining it to have fun. And I don't like redlining my bikes all the time..

You can have my klv1000, its on ebay at the moment,

2004 model, very tidy, lots of upgrades to make it pretty much a sportsbike slayer, do a search on ebay for klv1000 and yourll find it.

Its up at £2800 or best offer but i could do a deal of some description.....

no problem matey, good luck with whatever you buy though, personally i would avoid the varedero, its fookin heavy, slow, and guzzles like a pro'
Aside from that its butt fugly.

Caponord - Had one, fantastic, engines brilliant, fast, handles the best of all the trailies (yes better than the gs when set up right) but yikes, i could get it down to 20 mpg on a normal ride! If you dont mind that though, the build quality is excellent and they never go wrong.

how about the 650 funduro... there is that dakar version with the longer travel suspension and 21" wheel... nice bike!

650 GS, nah I don't think so, would not be that much better than the Dommie.

I really think I need a few more horses and one more cylinder...

I have always liked the Vara, it would obviously be a second best to a GS...

T'other thing is bringing it back to ireland I don't want to be paying too much VRT so up to year 2000 is good after that it can start to creep up...

Cagiva navigator - i think thats the 1000 one isnt it... i know they did a single too... cant remember the different names...

or if your looking for a bit more fun... bit less practical... a ktm duke... i know its a single but itll be much faster than the dommie.

The varedero is a good used buy though, holds its value.

I sold a VStrom recently (same as the KLV). Cracking bike and would have kept it only for an 1150GSA caught my eye. The bike goes forever with grand weather protection.

I recon a Honda Transalp sounds just what you are looking for. Its a super smooth Vee-Twin, will cruise at 85mph all day, good fuel consumption and the most underated bike in the world. I loved mine and had it for years, you just can't go wrong. You will get a 650 for £2k no problem

My wife owned one she toured on it round the baltics with a group of GS's no problem ...trouble free ownership unlike my last two GS's

Why the focus on power? My 650 Dakar will beat alot of bikes with twice the power (ask the 2 German Ducati riders on the offen Pass who waved me past them after I pushed them up the road for 8 miles ). Far better to ride a low powered bike well than ride a higher powered bike badly. I'd give anything a run for it's money on the right road. I've passed blades, Tuonos all manner of high power machines, they just couldn't ride em when the roads get twisty.

The Transalp is low powered but is a fantastic machine IMHO. Wifey loves hers. i often take it out for a change and it makes me smile. Not as accomplished a handler as the 650 Dakar though as the front end is very soft (even with progressive springs and thicker oil).

Its not really a focus on power.

I am having to ride the dommie harder than I would like... I don't like redlining my bikes so I want a bit more power.

I would also like a bit more extra weight as it makes me feel more planted.
